I gave up on online dating over 20 years ago before any of these apps were even a thing. In my early 20's I signed up for match.com. I'm average looking and at that time took very good care of myself, was in good shape and doing very well career-wise. I matched with a girl, back then very few people had their picture on their profile. We emailed and IMed for a few weeks then exchanged photos. She was very overweight and not particularly attractive but she seemed nice and I was definitely interested in taking her out and getting to know her. She ghosted me as soon as I sent my picture. I'm far from hideous or anything. She must have been waiting for a hunk to give her some attention and then dump or cheat on her. I cancelled my account and stuck to meeting people in person after that.
