Good idea or Bad idea? Reality check needed

Experian Credit.com
  1. Your credit report, FICO Score, and more. All free.
You've gotten some good advice by others already, and I agree. First, Credit Karma is decent for credit monitoring of your TU and EQ credit reports, but the VantageScore 3.0 they provide is virtually worthless. Check out experian.com (Don't do Boost), Discover Credit Scorecard, credit.com, or myFICO.com for actual FICO scores. There are some free trials and free account options in some of those sites. Second, definitely good advice to ditch annual fee cards that no longer serve a purpose for you. The account history will go into the closed section of your reports, and contribute to aging metrics for 10 years. No need to keep paying fees for accounts that you don't want/need. Last, keep paying off your baddie, keep on time payments on the rest of your accounts, and shop around before you settle on Mission Lane. You may be able to do better than a bare bones card with no rewards like Mission Lane. Pre-approval tools are available at Discover and Cap One that have no effect on your scores until you actually apply.
