How do I modify a life WordPress site that was set up by a now deceased individual?

WordPress WordPress.com ICANN WHOIS Whats My DNS
  1. WordPress is web software you can use to create a beautiful website or blog. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time.
    Pricing:
    • Open Source
If it's a self-hosted Wordpress install, wordpress.org, this complicates things initially but does make things easier to get into. You would need to find out where your website is hosted and obtain the account log in information for their control panel. If you're paying for it, they should be able to verify you and get you in eventually. From there, you'll need to access your wordpress database through a tool, usually called phpMyAdmin - in there you'll find the "wp_users" table, and a list of all the users, including the administrators.

  2. Create a free website or build a blog with ease on WordPress.com. Dozens of free, customizable, mobile-ready designs and themes. Free hosting and support.
The answer to this is dependent on who is providing your Wordpress site. If you're paying wordpress.com, it's a lot like Wix, and generally you should be able to get in touch with someone there who can help, they likely have a procedure for this. Even if they don't eventually the card you're paying for it with will expire, and once the money runs out, that company will eventually take the site down permenantly.

  3. The official ICANN WHOIS search for domain lookups.
If you are not sure of the hosting provider, you can put the URL into https://lookup.icann.org/ to get that information.

  4. Instantly check your domain names current IP address and DNS record information against multiple name servers located in different parts of the world.
As u/radialmonster said, you can go to a website like whatsmydns.net and search the domain in question. In particular you want to search for the A record DNS setting. Once you have an IP address, you can then search for something like "iplookup" and put that IP address in. It will give you a place where it resolves. Sometimes its name is obvious like yourhostingcompany.com. Sometimes it's not quite as obvious, in which case you can just google search the website that comes up and it normally just gives the hosting location away right then.
