Or use something like https://adguard.com/en/adguard-android/overview.html or https://adaway.org/ or https://blokada.org/. - Source: Reddit / 15 days ago
As far as debloating goes, there are threads on XDA site where others might have posted routines where you may do so without rooting(jailbreak in apple lingo). But if you really want to depracate some of that bloat from your system or atleast have a significant lick on bloatware's functions a) you are better off rooting your phone, again there are a whole bunch of these threads on XDA. b) at the very least I would... - Source: Reddit / 20 days ago
Https://adaway.org/ for anyone who may need it. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
I think you would have to access reddit through an adblocking browser. You wouldn't be able to block ads in the reddit app. To do that, you have to root your phone and install something like AdAway. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
You found the only correct solution here, stick with it. For root, use AdAway for system wide ad blocking on all your apps. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
I use AdAway (https://adaway.org) on Android instead. I don't know if it blocks Spotify ads as I don't listen to Spotify on my phone. If using VPN mode, you can have a quick action tile (by the wifi toggles, etc) to quickly and easily toggle AdBlock in case there is something blocked that you wanna see. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
Why are you not using an ad blocker? On android adaway works well for me and is completely free: https://adaway.org. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
You can consider using something like AdAway (https://adaway.org/) in VPN mode instead for similar functionality; this filtering is done on your device and a VPN is used to intercept DNS queries. Blokada (https://blokada.org/) also works similarily, and has worked for me in the past. Some people seem to discourage it, I'm not sure why. I'd just go with AdAway. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
What about installing [AdAway](https://adaway.org/) in root mode? It modifies just /etc/hosts files (with the help of Systemless Hosts module in Magisk) allowing to run any VPN. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
No it's not. It's an open-source ad-blocking app that uses the hosts file to block ads on rooted Android phones. Here is the official site and it's available to download from F-Droid(open-source app store for Android). - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
Adaway is a good one and Blockada simply download and follow the instructions. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
Yeah, it certainly will look normal on the front end but we don't know what's going on in the backend. That's where all the shady business takes place. You can scan the apk for malwares and stuff here to make sure if it has malware but it's not 100 % accurate. Plus it doesn't scan for data collection code or if it's being sent to a bad place. And in my honest opinion if you can't pay for adguard either stick with... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
I use AdAway. They're an OG in Android ad blocking. I've been using their app for at least 11 years, maybe 12! It works great, but you need root. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
I'll ad (ha!) this here too: the good old HOST file method still works. There's an app (I haven't checked myself) called https://adaway.org/ that easily edits it on Android. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
If you're on Android just use AdAway. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago

I have seen people who have mentioned adblocking and backups. I recommend AdAway and Swift backup for those. - Source: Reddit / 10 months ago
I've been using AdAway for root (host file) based ad blocking for years, it works well and has an easy gui, IMO. - Source: Reddit / 10 months ago
