The great news is that a Google search will show free or low cost MQTT servers (the broker) and dashboard solutions if you fancy a graph. e.g. Hive MQ has a totally open broker - great for testing BUT you want one with a bit more security - Adrafruit IO is fine for a small number of messages and topics. Background: I worked on Adafruit's IoT platform (https://io.adafruit.com) for a while and watching the industry, it seemed like keeping a company running and an API stable was harder than keeping dev boards powered.
