I like the idea of YouTube serving as a search engine and an entertaining feat

I discovered “Developer Voices” recently https://youtube.com/@DeveloperVoices. It’s more a podcast style channel, with a different guest on each episode with experience in a different area of tech/computer science they discuss. No memes, no click bake, no how to be a tech lead just mixed varied interesting computer science content/topics. Agree with the other posters though, generally tech channels are junk full... - Source: Hacker News / 14 days ago
Sounds like an education problem ? This kind of spam is an annoyance, but you learn to filter it out soon enough. Stack Overflow is a great example : its value is not so much in giving you a quick answer, but even more because you will see several answers, and the discussion around them. And yes, sure, convincing malicious actors there are always possible, but not probable. Same thing with Wikipedia's Talk pages,... - Source: Hacker News / 14 days ago

So starting basically from "zero" in order to learn the prerequisites before learning what you actually want to learn on your own can feel daunting at times. But I think taking shortcuts will result in frustration. So, here I am taking algebra courses on YT with 38 years. Without getting into any big debates about whether or not RAG is medium-term interesting or whatever, you can ‘pip install sentence-transformers faiss’ and just immediately start having fun. I recommend using straightforward cosine similarity to just crush the NYT’s recommender as a fun project for two reasons: there’s an API and plenty of corpus, and it’s like, whoa, that’s better than the New York Times. Https://youtube.com/@MikeBoyd Easily Mike Boyd! The beauty of his channel is he doesn’t allow himself to use the internet or look anything up. It’s all trial and error, (and the editing is really well done). - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
