There's a Mac application called Yate which is a music library manager. It can query AcoustID, MusicBrainz, and Discogs and re-tag your files and move/copy them to whatever directory structure you like (doesn't have to rename the files). Extremely complex but has a very powerful scripting engine so you can do essentially anything with it. You could organize by key, BPM, release year, record label... Or all of the... Tip for the community if you’re a KJ or enthusiast who uses a Mac. There is a utility called Yate that is a Swiss Army knife for ID3 tagging, file renaming etc etc. Complex, but very powerful.. Anyway, I wanted to use it to cleanup some of the tags and file naming on my collection. Since I Use CDG’s it was important that they match the MP3 file name before the suffix. I contacted the developer and he churned... Source: about 1 year ago
With Mac OS, is there a way to open a folder in two apps at the same time? I will often drag a folder containing music files to the task bar, onto to an app icon in order to load the files. Usually I'll do this once for IINA to play the files and repeat the process for Yate so that I can edit the metadata while I listen. Ideally, I would like to do this with a single action. Along with Meta and MP3Tag, possibly Yate too. Tried it years ago and it worked well. Source: about 2 years ago
Not sure if this is the kind of solution you are looking for, but I do all my music metadata massaging with a software called 'yate' : https://2manyrobots.com/yate/. Source: over 2 years ago
Agreed. Although I echo another commenter about wanting real tagging functionality in a manager. Also Music app has some ongoing bugs that just seem to never be fixed, the main one for me related to embedded artwork. For quickly tagging / getting artwork for random stuff like individual songs ripped from YouTube I use Yate’s [0] Discogs Wizard. It’s very configurable and fast to use once you set things up. Far and away the best is 2manyrobots' Yate. Good luck! Source: almost 3 years ago
When there's some sort of complex specific-to-my-needs automation that I need to do for tagging, yate is pretty incredible. There's been several times now where I need something really weird and specific and yate always has some way to automate it, plus the support on their forum is great, the dev always comes through with a way to help. I'd highly recommend using Yate for that. It's the best tagged I've used. If you drag tracks from iTunes/Music straight into yate, it'll refresh the music apps data as well. Source: about 3 years ago
