  • Neonmodem: TUI for Lobsters, HN, etc.
WeeChat[0] with Bitlbee[1] supports a metric assload of services, albeit by pretending they're IRC (which does work - I spent years in weechat/irssi with bitlbee talking to various people on disparate services.) Or if you're just after Telegram/WhatsApp, nchat[2] is ok (I can vouch for the Telegram half only.) [0] https://weechat.org [1] https://wiki.bitlbee.org [2] - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Wave of Spam Hits IRC
And UnrealIRCD still rocks. For a quick-and-dirty setup I've deploy ng-ircd but Unreal has always been my go-to for anything serious. If nothing else it can be useful as a backup or internal platform during the rare events that Slack or Discord are having an incident. The common complaint is a lack of channel back-log but it can be front-ended with TheLounge [1] or Convos [2]. I personally prefer to handle... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • WeeChat Version 4.0.0
With this particular linked page, it's just the change log. The actual website is at https://weechat.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
  • WeeChat Version 4.0.0
The link posted was to the dev blog, the actual website can be found at [0]. On the blog, the right side menu under "Links" also links to the website. [0] - https://weechat.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
  • Can you help me login or get my WeeChat back?
Iโ€™m afraid youโ€™re in the wrong subreddit. This subreddit is dedicated to WeeChat the IRC client., not the proprietary messaging app built by Tencent. Source: about 3 years ago
  • DPReview.com is shutting down
First off, grab yourself an IRC client. On their connection info page Hackint has information for both WeeChat and Hexchat, but you could use any IRC client. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Discord has updated their privacy policy.
That's nothing to do with weechat? https://weechat.org/. Source: over 3 years ago
  • IRC Chat?
Gajim is for XMPP. For IRC you need Hexchat or Weechat or something like that. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Tell HN: Linux Mint support IRC appears to me captured by juvenile moderators
I am not familiar with HexChat but you might consider using a different IRC client that allows you to silence anything/everything by default and only alert you on specific keywords you are interested in. If you like command line tools, consider trying out WeeChat IRC client [1] It is very customizable and there are many scripts for it. • Ergo โ€“ modern IRC server written in Go
Put https://weechat.org/ on your vpn (or a raspberry pi under your couch or whatever) and install one of the weechat apps. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
  • Docker based IRC client ... does it exist?
If you're old school IRC person, and remember the good ol times with bitchx & irssi, https://weechat.org/ is a good modernized & actively maintained option, not a browser based option but.. Source: almost 5 years ago
  • My favorite cli/tui programs:
Not already given : BurntSushi/ripgrep: ripgrep recursively searches directories for a regex pattern while respecting your gitignore, Sharkdp/fd: A simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to 'find', Chafa: Terminal Graphics for the 21st Century, WeeChat, the extensible chat client. • Getting started with IRC and Weechat
You can skip the compilation step and download the finished weechat from weechat.org. But what fun is that? - Source: dev.to / about 5 years ago
  • Ask HN: What IRC client do you use?
Weechat (https://weechat.org/) It's available on the SDF metaarray and looks really good in a terminal, so it's what I use. - Source: Hacker News / about 5 years ago
  • How to be social in the terminal
WeeChat is an extensive chat client that includes an interesting list of plugins. Some plugins add features like proxy support, while others add support to social services, thus being worth mentioning. WeeChat can easily be combined with BitlBee, and bring support to additional services (Twitter/Discord/Steam). I used the Skype plugin in the past but now is outdated and not functional. - Source: dev.to / over 5 years ago
  • Terminal based chat app?
It depends on what protocol you're looking for. Some chat apps that I know of are: gomuks (Matrix), weechat (primarily IRC, with plugins for other protocols), irssi (primarily IRC, with plugins for other protocols), profanity (XMPP), poezio (XMPP). Source: over 5 years ago
  • [ TUTORIAL ] How to download anime through IRC (w/ Images!)
I use HexChat (Download the Win7 version as it's the free version), but I've also used WeeChat and I really like both. You can also use any IRC client of your choosing, these two are only what I've used. Source: over 5 years ago
