This is driving me nuts and not sure how to deal with it. As noted using Adguard for Safari and Firefox and selected the same options/filter lists and getting different filter results. This is on the "wundermap" on wunderground.com. For example this page: https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap?lat=40.731&lon=-73.987&zoom=8&radar=1&wxstn=0. Source: over 2 years ago
Use wunderground.com. It's like 21% at the highest (but showing 5% in Goleta). There isn't an actual NWS forecasting out this way, so they are extrapolating. Not to mention that means 5-20% of the area will see precipitation, which could include areas in that you don't care about (eg. Up in the mountains). Source: almost 3 years ago
Why does the Storm Prediction Center have us in a marginal risk for tomorrow (Sat.?) The hourly forecast on weather.com and wunderground.com only show possible thunderstorms at 5 a.m. Sat. Morning but the text says "A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible" Sat. night. When is the time frame for the marginal risk the Storm Prediction Center is talking about? Trying to plan my Saturday, thanks. Source: about 3 years ago
A good old fashioned barometer is your time tested best bet. When it's in the gutter, tie your mother down... Otherwise, I suggest wunderground.com. Type in your zip code, then select 10 day forecast. You can drag the slider hour by hour. And it's usually pretty darn accurate. Source: about 3 years ago
Oooh, that's a great idea to visit this March so you can get a feel for it! I also should have mentioned that wunderground.com is the only place I've found that has the historical weather data. :/. Source: about 3 years ago
I look at wunderground.com for the ten day weather forecasts. Those are updated multiple times a day. And the forecasts are constantly changing, a little or a lot. I have a better understanding of the cyclic behavior of the weather from watching those ten days step forward one at a time. Source: about 3 years ago
The article is about programing the ESP8266-01 to get the teperature and humidity from the internet (wunderground.com) using their API to get the data from a JSON file then presenting it to the LCD connected to the UNO. Source: about 3 years ago
I prefer the way wunderground.com displays similar data. Source: about 3 years ago
Then start checking the 10 day page on wunderground.com. Source: over 3 years ago

Is there a before picture in the same style above? I went to wunderground.com to look at the jetstream, but I'm not a meteorologist. Or is there somewhere where we can see a before and after animation? Like I know the jet stream is important, but I really have no context as to how bad the image posted is. Source: over 3 years ago
Windy.com, or wunderground.com have always been my go-tos. Source: over 3 years ago
You can actually go to wunderground.com and see temperatures on different days, weeks or months. Its pretty interesting. Also precipitation. Source: over 3 years ago
Go to wunderground.com, type in the city that the game took place in, then click history, and choose your specific date in history. It'll give you an hourly temperature chart recorded at the closest weather station (usually the closest airport) for that day. So as long as you know the start time of the game, you can see the temperature at that time on that day in that city. Source: over 3 years ago
You'll have to zoom in to look at it. The first page is this year, the second page is 2021. I get the data from wunderground.com / Sky Harbor station. Source: over 3 years ago
Yeah, I use wunderground.com - I don't think I've seen local TV weather in years. Source: over 3 years ago
The weather looks like it will be "perfect" around this time .. No heat no rain, and you can check historical data on wunderground.com. Source: over 3 years ago
My dude, scattered doesn't mean rain all day. there's a chance of rain each of those days, but not the entire day. I'd be willing to bet that the mornings will be clear and then you'll get a chance of rain in the afternoon evening. Probably a storm that lasts an hour or two and then clears out. Checkout wunderground.com as they have hourly precip chances and you can get a better idea of when the rain chances are... Source: almost 4 years ago
As said by other commenters, the NWS has a very strict set of guidelines for what data they use. They won't take a home station. Companies like weather underground might though. wunderground.com has a link for connecting a station to their network. Source: almost 4 years ago
That's where weather underground excels because they use 'crowd sourced' data from both public and private weather stations. So if there are several people in your area uploading weather data, it becomes more locally accurate. Source: almost 4 years ago
I like wunderground.com for planning. They have a really nice graph on the 10-day forecast that you can customize with things like pressure, humidity, and wind. I'm sure they have an app (no idea if it has the graph), but I just use it on a laptop. For past weather I use NOAA observed weather at my nearest station (just search "observed weather [your city]" and the first result is usually the w1.weather.gov site... Source: about 4 years ago
Weather Underground: An Overview of Public Perception
Weather Underground, a popular weather forecasting service, has carved a niche for itself in the competitive realm of meteorological web applications. As a subsidiary of The Weather Company, an IBM Business, it competes with industry giants like Weather.com, AccuWeather, and Dark Sky. This summary synthesizes public opinion, as informed by various recent product mentions and user-generated comments.
Strengths and Unique Features
Weather Underground stands out for its emphasis on local weather data accuracy. The platform relies on a network of over 30,000 personal and amateur weather stations, making its forecasts highly localized. This crowd-sourced data offers users a unique edge compared to traditional forecasting models, and the interactive features allow users to verify forecasts and contribute their own observations.
The platform's detailed maps and ability to overlay various data points such as radar, satellite imagery, and severe weather alerts are among its strength points. Users appreciate the customization capabilities, offering multiple map styles and data representations, including high-resolution satellite imagery from NOAA's GOES-16. These features position Weather Underground as a versatile tool for both casual users and weather enthusiasts seeking detailed data visualization.
Subscription Model and Cost Considerations
The application is free to use; however, a subscription ($4/month) is required for advanced features like extended hourly forecasts out to 15 days and smarter predictions through advanced algorithms. This freemium model aligns with industry trends, balancing user accessibility with value-added content for paying subscribers.
Challenges and Decline in Service Quality
Despite its strengths, several users have expressed concerns over a noted decline in the app's performance and features. Since 2018, following the announcement to discontinue its API service, the platform has reportedly experienced slower performance and reduced feature offerings. This has been a point of contention among long-term users and has fostered apprehension about potential future reductions in service.
There is also criticism regarding the user interface, where some find navigation slower than competitors. Moreover, Weather Underground did not respond to recent queries about these issues, reflecting potential communication gaps with their user base.
Accuracy and Historical Data
For many users, accuracy remains a crucial metric. Weather Undergroundโs mobilization of personal weather stations helps improve local forecasts. It also provides valuable historical weather data, a feature appreciated by those needing retrospective weather insights for projects or personal interests.
Conclusion
Weather Underground maintains a generally positive reputation for its innovative incorporation of crowd-sourced data and detailed visualization tools. However, concerns about service degradation and feature reduction linger, which could impact its competitive edge in the future. As users weigh their options among various weather apps, Weather Undergroundโs strong commitment to localization and high-resolution data remains its primary appeal. Nonetheless, addressing user concerns and enhancing communication will be key to sustaining its user base in the competitive weather app market.
