Since Brogue's already been mentioned, I'd add Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and Tales of Maj Eyal as pretty beginner friendly games. Source: 5 months ago
Have you tried TOME? It's a free roguelike, but you can also buy it and the DLC (sold for $4-7 on his website) on Steam if you end up enjoying it. Source: 10 months ago
Try the free download from te4.org first! That is the full game, not a demo. It doesn't have the DLC, but then for most of its existence there were no DLC. I've spent years playing the main campaign before the DLC. Just the main game is huge and has lots of content. Source: 10 months ago
Also, what's the difference between the steam collector's edition and the te4.org version? I absolutely don't mind paying 10 eur, but first I want to clarify what's the difference. Source: 10 months ago
If you don't care about graphics. This could be right down your alley Https://te4.org/. Source: 10 months ago
Tales of Maj'Eyal: Age of Ascendancy , if you like roguelikes. You can download the free version from their website, but there's also a version on Steam. Source: 11 months ago
Tales of Maj'Eyal, if you like roguelikes. Also available for free from their website. Source: 11 months ago
If you like Roguelikes, Tales of Maj'Eyal: Age of Ascendancy is great. Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is fun, too. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is good if you want a more traditional roguelike. Source: 12 months ago
I'm personally really looking forward to Lost Land (Tales of Maj'Eyal's new expansion), Elin(by creator of Elona), and neverlooted dungeon (demo is amazing IMO). Source: 12 months ago
I think you'd probably love Tales of Maj'Eyal, also on Steam. It has lots of race / class unlocks, achievements, & DLC expansions. It's turn based, and uses randomization for the enemies, loot, & dungeon interiors but the overall campaigns are linear. Source: about 1 year ago
As for an actual suggestion, I think Tales of Maj'Eyal is usually recommended as one the better ones? Source: about 1 year ago
Inspired by the Dream Forge skills in Tales of Maj'Eyal, and at the request of one of my players, I wanted to adapt it to pf2e. The challenge part is just to try and push myself to create content for my new favorite system. :). Source: about 1 year ago
Tales of Maj'Eyal (Note that while this one's also on Steam, I've linked you straight to the dev website. The base game is free with a donation system, the Steam release is basically buying the game for the donation price.). Source: about 1 year ago
The base game is free from the game's official website! https://te4.org/. Source: about 1 year ago
"Tales of Maj’Eyal (ToME) is a free, open source roguelike RPG, featuring tactical turn-based combat and advanced character building. Play as one of many unique races and classes in the lore-filled world of Eyal, exploring random dungeons, facing challenging battles, and developing characters with your own tailored mix of abilities and powers. Codename: Empty is a hobby project with the goal of taking an overworld style roguelike (think Caves of Qud or Tales of Maj'Eyal) and turning that style of experience into a text adventure. Unlike the tradition text adventures (like Zork) however, C:E has a massive focus on simplifying user input without losing the complexity of the systems involved. Source: over 1 year ago
Probably best to check out winning characters on te4.org and improvise from there. There's also some newer guides on the forums but I don't know how good they are. Source: over 1 year ago
Links: http://te4.org for the free base game (don't worry, the free base game is plenty to start with!) https://store.steampowered.com/app/259680/Tales_of_MajEyal/ for the paid steam version with dlcs. It's currently on sale for an excellent price. Note you can get the dlcs without steam as well. Source: over 1 year ago
ToME4 does the thing that you're asking for. Source: over 1 year ago
Honestly, sounds like a proper roguelike of some ilk. Tales of Taj'Mayel is my guess, as it has regular updates with chapter names and bonus DLC classes for buying the game on Steam. Source: over 1 year ago
Free from the website if you want to give it a shot. Source: over 1 year ago
