I learned Oracle SQL in school years ago. I ended up working with MS SQL Server as part of my job. I like SQLZOO quite a lot for learning the basics of writing SQL. As far as reading SQL and being able to jump into existing codebases, I really don't know if you will find great resources there and I'd be surprised if they actually had much carryover to working with large codebases on the job.
