The challenge is that you need a mac that has a serial port, and then you need to be able to run the classic Mac OS (System 7 and higher). This camera pre-dates USB. However, you might be able to convince SheepShaver to use a USB-to-Serial cable and go with it that way. Source: over 1 year ago
SheepShaver is a virtual machine program for running macOS, particularly the early PowerPC-era ones. It can run Rolypolys 2 just fine, although setting them up can be a bit tricky. Source: almost 2 years ago
The Macintosh Repository has a lot of vintage Mac software from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s. Getting it working is another story. I use SheepShaver, it's a hell of a thing to set up, but once you get it working, it's good for anything that didn't require a graphics card (I've been playing so much Rescue! The last couple months). Source: almost 2 years ago
A new iMac M1 doesn't support older 32-bit apps so you're looking for an OS environment like SheepShaver that allows Intel/PowerPC Macs to run legacy pre-MacOSX apps. In your case for M2/M1 Macs to emulate a 32-bit environment... Sadly nothing like that is currently available or in development AFAIK. My suggestion is to keep the Macbook Pro and continue using it as long as possible. I still have an ancient Beige... Source: about 2 years ago
Meet Sheepshaver, a PPC Mac emulator that runs quite well on Apple Silicon. You'll need to track down a ROM dump of your old PPC Mac, but then you can install MacOS 7.x-9.x, and run old software. I've had good luck with Warcraft II, SimCity 2000, and Civilization II. Source: about 2 years ago
For slightly older games (OS 9 and before) SheepShaver runs quite well under Apple Silicon. I've been using it to play Warcraft II lately. (Man what a well-designed game...). Source: about 2 years ago
If you install a 32 bit macOS like Mojave, you can try SheepShaver. I had it running some time ago on Mojave, but it was complicated to setup. Https://sheepshaver.cebix.net/. Source: over 2 years ago
I've had some luck emulating OS9 with sheepshaver. Setup is kind of a pain, and I think it can be difficult to find legal means of obtaining the image for the OS, but I did eventually get it working. Source: over 2 years ago
You need an emulator. The one I use is SheepShaver, but it's a hassle to setup, you need to find an image of Mac OS 7 / 8 / 9 and install it like a VM, you should check a few guides. Source: over 2 years ago
SheepShaver, UTM (which is QEMU but easier to use), ... There are many emulators for the classic Mac OS. All you need is a PPC emulator which fulfills the program's system requirements. Then, you can try to get a copy of Mac OS from archive.org, macintoshgarden.org, winworldpc.com, or other sites to install on that emulator. Source: almost 3 years ago
If you want to run "classic" MacOS PPC software, you're best off using an emulator: https://sheepshaver.cebix.net. Source: almost 3 years ago
Try this emulator out. https://sheepshaver.cebix.net You can probably still find vintage crt iMacs in different places. Also check out the r/vintagemac sub. Source: about 3 years ago
Sheepshaver could work maybe for an emulator for OS 9? Source: about 3 years ago
You can download a 68k Mac emulator like Basilisk or SheepShaver and try getting it to run with the original Marathon Infinity software from '96. Source: over 3 years ago
Classic MacOS for Bolo and Dome Wars? Bolo runs natively on Linux anyway, but there's an emulator for that. Source: over 3 years ago
Possibly you could run the full stack with Qemu or https://sheepshaver.cebix.net/ Might even work fast enough on a Raspberry Pi 4. - Source: Hacker News / almost 4 years ago
