I use SensibleSideButtons for all my mouse customization needs (which aren't much) https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
On macOS, I use SensibleSideButtons to map my Logitech mouse side buttons to Swipe Right and Swipe Left. This works as a generic Forwards/Back in lots of places: Safari, Firefox, Finder, iTerm2. Unfortunately the app appears to be abandoned (no Apple Silicon builds), but if there's interest I will resurrect it. https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago

Out of the box, the scrolling felt quite off, even with Logitech’s new beta s/w. I found that the smooth scroll would also stop working from time to time which can get quite frustrating. Luckily there’s a bunch of great indie s/w like Mos, SteerMouse, Mac Mouse Fix, and Sensible Side Buttons that path some of the shortcomings. Source: almost 2 years ago
Great software. I use Sensible Side Buttons for basically the same purposes. Source: about 2 years ago
External mice work just fine up to 3 buttons and a scroll wheel. Beyond that you need to either have a mouse with a Mac-specific driver or use SensibleSideButtons (https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net/). I strongly recommend Logitech MX Master 3, it works great on macOS, Windows and Linux. The former two have first part support, the latter through Solaar. Source: about 2 years ago
However, with mice that have back/forward buttons, you'll need to install Sensible Side Buttons App for those buttons to work. Source: about 2 years ago
Chrome has actually got support built-in for the back and forward buttons, but I don't know any other app in macOS that does. I also have a mouse that has those buttons and am a fervent user. To get them working for all apps I use SensibleSideButtons. Source: over 2 years ago
You mean the thumb buttons, right? If yes, I use https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net/. Source: over 2 years ago

This fixes side buttons, and This to make third party mouses work like everything else on Macs (smooth scrolling, etc). Both free. Source: over 2 years ago
100%. I wanted to create a second blog post specifically about the side buttons (I'm using SensibleSideButtons). It feels so weird to me that we need to use third-party software for this :/. Source: almost 3 years ago
DPI Up/Down -> 'Switching workspaces' (Ctrl + left/right) DPI shift button -> 'showing all windows'. (Ctrl + UP) All this was achieved by installing https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net/ The DPI shift button now shows opens find window which is fine with me. Source: almost 3 years ago
I do use few other software to accommodate my needs, for example: - MOS to have smooth and reverse scroll - SensibleSideButtons to fix the forward/backward buttons behavior - Karabiner-Elements for advanced configuration. Source: almost 3 years ago
I'll also suggest Sensible Side Buttons for making the side buttons on third party mice work as back & forward navigation buttons. Source: almost 3 years ago

Sensible Side Buttons: https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net/ Free. This lets your additional mouse buttons, like back and forward, work the same way on Mac as on Windows. Source: about 3 years ago
