  • Different Strokes for Different Folks
For an even more configurable mouse, check out the Ploopy mouse and trackballs: https://ploopy.co/ Fully open source, the mouse (that I own) uses QMK for its firmware. Which means I can use key binding layers rather than single buttons. In other words, one button acts like a shift button that modifies the action of the other buttons. So I have easy access to page up/down, mission control (what was exposé in... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • My G502 mouse lasted 2 years before dying sometime in 2022. Found a G602 from 2013 that’s nearing 10 years and still kicking ass. They TRULY don’t make them like they used to.
If you truly want a mouse built to last, look into a Ploopy (https://ploopy.co/). You can get trackball ones, or a classic style mouse. It's fully open source and uses 3D printed parts, so not only can you easily get it repaired, you can also modify it to your hearts content. Also possible to remap the buttons or even program the microcontroller with custom code to do specific tasks if you wish. Source: 10 months ago
  • Wait what?... THEY MAKE MK MICE NOW?!?
I have no affiliation with https://ploopy.co, but as an enjoyer of their products, I'd urge you to take a look at their mouse & trackball if you want a proper custom mouse/trackball made for keyboard enthusiasts. 10/10 stuff. Source: 12 months ago
  • Steam Deck + Framework modular handheld console idea
You might be interested in the very unfortunately named ploopy. Source: about 1 year ago
  • What are my alternatives to Atreus62
I haven’t gotten around to trying anything from fingerpunch yet (I think their faux fox series is probably their most popular) but I don’t imagine any of their cases meant for trackballs is all that hard to work with (and if you just want a trackball, Ploopy seems to be the go to). You may want to look at the Ploopy trackballs and mice https://ploopy.co. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022
Got one of these recently, they run qmk so easy to modify if that’s your thing: https://ploopy.co/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • All the keyboards I've designed and built over the last 3 months.
There is this open source trackball: https://ploopy.co/ but more custom mice would be awesome, I agree. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Recommended Trackballs for DAW workflow?
Take a look at Ploopy's options. They use better sensors. Some assembly may be required though. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Great-houk/mouse-project: DIY Gaming Mouse
Another open/DIY mouse project is the Ploopy ecosystem, discussed here several times: https://ploopy.co/ https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31777326 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28285427 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21263264 They focus on trackballs and the 3D printed construction. I appreciate the pragmatic approach here of buying a cheap injection-molded mouse and focusing on the PCB and... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • How to integrate a trackpoint in a mechanical keyboard
I think that (like me) you overestimate the size of population looking for an opensource trackpoint design. For your trackball example there's the Ploopy [0], but even there we're still dependent on something like the PMW3360 sensor board (which afaik isn't open). I just can't picture how designing and manufacturing a new trackpoint board from scratch - one that competes with the excellent Trackpoint IV modules... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • MTE fixers, how do you go about fixing the left mouse button?
If you didn't want to fully replace, you could see if a ploopy part would work: https://ploopy.co/. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Need help deciding on an ergonomic mouse to pair with my Raise.
I use a Ploopy classic trackball. If you get into that, I've also done the BTU mod, and I ordered a wedge to angle it. It's just about as perfect as you can get for ergonomics if you don't mind the 3D-printed finish to it. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • First finger trackball advice
I would like to recommend expanding your trackball style experience if you can. https://ploopy.co/ makes a really good series of open source trackballs. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Open-source headphones project updates. More details in comments.
Thanks! I do have a website, but it's for unrelated things. I post updates about the headphones project on r/ploopy and here. Source: about 2 years ago
  • The Bellwether mouse: A modern Depraz clone
In any mouse thread, I will always recommend ploopy trackballs and mice. https://ploopy.co/ My only gripe about the ploopy mouse is the scroll wheel spins a little too freely. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • I really need to up my cable game
It looks like a Ploopy trackball (https://ploopy.co/) with a wedge under it to reduce hand pronation. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Trackball mouse giving me palm pain
If you are adventurous and want a fun DIY trackball check out Ploopy. They are 3D printed and you can either build them yourself or have them prebuilt. They are larger than the M570 but more comfortable for usage, at least it is for me. More for the enthusiasts though. Also if you want to spend the money/learn about Github it's a fun place to start. It kicked my butt but it was a frustratingly fun experience. Source: over 2 years ago
