I always mention this with live shows & really anything with sound different from the usual setup: If audio feels fatiguing, muddled, peaky, whatever the discomfort may be, Equalizer APO + Peace GUI for desktop has presets & manual controls to adjust frequencies. Source: almost 3 years ago

  • How can people hear things I can't?
Best method I've found so far is to use a few free programs in tandem: Equalizer APO as audio controller with LoudMax vst (to compress gunshots) Peace EQ (for headphone optimization and EQ fine tuningโ€”crickets, rain hiss, etc), and HeSuVi with the included wavesnx preset, which will convert your stereo audio into virtualized 7.1 surround (remember to configure speakers in control panel for 7.1), which is the true... • Schiit Rekkr Questions
Finally, I've found that the key component to making music more listenable despite hyperacusis is an equalizer -- you might be OK with digital EQ on the laptop (like the Peace EQ), but my ears prefer what I hear through the Schiit Loki Mini+. The Loki is easy to use and lets me adjust recordings that are too bass-heavy or treble-hot etc., so that I can listen to the music rather than lunge for the Stop button. Source: over 3 years ago

You are correct though--the audio will be unprocessed. If you need to do any EQ correction for your headphones, I'd recommend using EQ software that is not WavesMaxx to do the job. If you get one though, you might be tempted to play with the SBX Profiles in Sound Blaster Command and you might be tempted to create your own SBX Profiles by making adjustments to the Acoustic Engine settings (Surround, Crystalizer, Bass, Smart Vol and Dialog+). Have you tried to EQ? I do that with all my headphones and IEMs. Peace Equalizer APO is the best software and is has integrated Auto EQ to Harman Target which adds some bass. Applying the EQ isn't too complicated. On Windows, you can use a program like Equalizer APO (Peace adds a slightly improved interface) to adjust/apply the EQ levels.
