  • Prey (2017) Director: Using That Name Was A Mistake
OpenAL Soft - Greatly improves audio. (Enable EAX effects in SS2 settings after this OpenAL Soft is installed). System Shock 2 used hardware accelerated audio effects and those work only if you have sound card that supports them. OpenAL Soft implements all those effects in software so you get good audio. Sounds like you want OpenAL Soft a cross platform LGPL software implementation of OpenAL. Source code and issue tracker are [on Github](0https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft). Source: about 3 years ago
  • Latest versions of Creative ALchemy and OpenAL
OpenAL. I found OpenAL v1.1 Windows Installer from OpenAL: Cross Platform 3D Audio but OpenAL Soft v1.21.0 from here https://openal-soft.org/. What is the difference and which should I download? Source: over 3 years ago
  • Really, it is a good idea to have Windows XP in a VM.
I'm big on surround / 5.1+ / 3D audio in PC games, so I wonder how that fares in the best VMs. There are various software projects to restore 3D audio to 1998-2012 era PC games, but again, I expect VMs to be stereo only so I dunno if something like OpenAL Soft would have the multichannel audio data it'd need to work. • Announcing DSOAL-GW1: 3D Positional Audio and EAX Effects for Everyone!
Note: This file is just a renamed copy of soft_oal.dll from openal-soft. I’ve included version 1.21.0 because versions 1.21.1 has a crash bug with custom .ambdec files. If you want to keep an eye out for updates, here is openal-soft’s website: https://openal-soft.org/. Source: about 4 years ago
  • Ask HN: How to get started with audio programming?
I have played with OpenAL-soft [0] and libsndfile [1] to make a simple music player. It works fine but I want to learn the deeper concepts behind how computer audio works. I am a CS student and I know C/C++, Python, and high school mathematics. I came across 'The Audio Programming Book' [2] which seems suited for my level. Can you recommend me some more related resources? [0] https://openal-soft.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
  • Having a unique audio issue that I need help looking into
Solved it! If anyone comes across this issue themselves I had to download the OpenAL Soft binaries from https://openal-soft.org/#download (the .zip file). Source: over 4 years ago
