Social recommendations and mentions

We have tracked the following product recommendations or mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you see what people think about Notepad++ and what they use it for.
  • Open-Shell: A collection of utilities bringing back classic features to Windows
Whenever I need to live on a Windows system for any length of time, I install [notepad++](https://notepad-plus-plus.org) Do you prefer Notepad3 over Notepad++, and can you share why if so? - Source: Hacker News / 3 days ago
  • Regex is not your enemy
So, the only option left is to use regular expressions. You need a text editor that can "Find" and "Replace" using them - my choice is Notepad++ (for Windows people like me - shortcut Ctrl+H). - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago
  • Notepad on Windows 11 is finally getting a character count
If you sling text around regularly, why not treat yourself to a decent text editor? Both Notepad++ (Windows) and Notepadqq (Linux) are free, open-source, and a hell of a lot netter than Notepad. Source: 5 months ago
  • Creating a 'Proper Nouns' List
The most common way I use it is to right click a note and open a note in the default app which I have set .MD to open in Notepad++ which is a text editor with regex search/replace. Source: 5 months ago
  • Anybody have surfcam experience?
Notepad ++ is similar to notepad but has a lot more features. There are more features but different colored text and the ability to search are a couple examples. And it's free. Source: 5 months ago
  • i cant open my ecg files
TXT stands for text, and that's not what you open with Excel. TXT can be opened by notepad, Notapad++ or on Linux simply use cat. Source: 5 months ago
  • I wrote my bibliography manually (Dont ask why). How do I sort it by the first letter of each entry?
You sort the lines with a good text editor. Notepad++ for example has a function Edit -> Line Operations -> Sort Lines Lexicographically Ascending / Descending. In Emacs you mark the block and run M-x sort-lines. In vim, you mark the block and run :sort. Source: 5 months ago
  • What’s your preferred way to run Windows apps on Mac?
I’ve always used Windows, but am thinking about switching to macOS since I already have an iPhone and iPad. My biggest concern is that some of the apps I sometimes use only work with Windows, such as Notepad++. I also use some Minecrsft utilities such as MCCToolChest, or Open Note Block Studio. • .pnt files
I prefer Notepad++ but there are tons out there. Source: 10 months ago
  • I need help with Modded Mayors
Now, use a text editor like Notepad++ to help you edit the XML. Although the TAB files lack a correct starting tag to identify them as XML, once you choose that language in Notepad++, you will get coloured syntax highlighting and can Fold All levels and then only unfold the ones you want to work on (I suggest using the powerful search feature to jump you to where you want to be). • Apple MAC M2 Chip : Rosetta 2 update is not available
If that still has a Rosetta issue then try installing / running something simple like Notepad++ [Org web site] to force the Rosetta install... Source: 10 months ago
  • Looking for Win app (or other) to search the contents of many documents.
For windows, my go-to is NotePad++'s "Find in Files" feature. Source: 10 months ago
  • Is there any reason to not use VS Code when learning python?
Don't agonize over your text editor when you are learning. If it has line numbers and syntax highlighting, go ahead and use it. Notepad++, VSCodium, Sublime, VSCode, gedit, nano, vim or any other text editor will do fine. Source: 11 months ago
  • Superweapons arsenal
Opening a .java file with notepad++ (very useful and free!) you may see something like this near the top. Source: 12 months ago
  • How can i look into my previous session files without any addons?
A completely offline (and more complicated) solution would be decompressing the file with dejsonlz4, and then copying all the links with the Mark tab in the Find dialog displayed by Notepad++. Source: 12 months ago
  • Best Editor/IDE for a "User" instead of a programmer?
Maybe Notepad++? I use it for editing text files when I need more than just Notepad but not heavy-duty stuff. Source: 12 months ago
  • When building stations do you select a specific order of modules such as dock, storages, followed by Ecells ect?
If it is a larger build/framework, use off faction connection modules (eg if building with a PAR flavor, use TEL or ARG for framework so they are easily identified), then save and export the framed template. Using a text editor (notepad++ works nicely with its integrated tools) you can then quickly locate and remove the off faction framework modules in seconds per type. I then save it with an unframed name in case... Source: 12 months ago
  • Must have programs for a fresh Windows 10 install.
    Notepad++ - Great open-source feature-rich text/code editor. Source: about 1 year ago
  • "Why people pirate Microsoft Word" and the problems with everyday software like Microsoft Office being ridiculously expensive.
Notepad++ is an excellent advanced text editor. If you set it to use a monospace font like Courier New, Ubuntu Mono, or Inconsolata, you can make plaintext checklists and other hand-aligned files much more easily with its rectangular multi-line selection via Shift+Alt+Up/Down/Left/Right. It also has the option of regex find and replace, which I've used before to convert plaintext lists into XML and JSON, and back.... Source: about 1 year ago
  • what happens if you decide you are done podcasting and cancel your subscription. Where do your podcasts go?
Update your RSS feed file with the new episode and image URLs (this is just a specifically formatted text file. You can do that with find/replace as long as the file names are the same, though you might use notepad++ instead of normal notepad for..... reasons, technical and annoying reasons). Source: about 1 year ago
  • I gained 10-20 FPS with this simple fix in KSP 2!
I don't have KSP2 yet, so I can't comment on the fix, but Notepad++ is another free text editor which should be good for this kind of task. Source: about 1 year ago

10 Best Notepad Alternatives With a Better UI and Features
EditPad Lite is again on the lighter end of the spectrum when it comes to features, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The program is fast and boots up instantaneously. While it offers some good features over Notepad, it comes nowhere near Notepad++ in terms of sheer functionality, which definitely makes it a lot more user-friendly and suitable for beginners. The app feels dated, especially in the shadow of...
