  • How to ditch Neon
If you're reading this you probably got a really steep bill from Neon after finding yourself on their "Scale" plan. If you do want to stay with Neon but avoid surprise bills then go to the Plans page and choose what you actually want. - Source: dev.to / about 17 hours ago
  • Serverless Postgres with Neon - My first impression
Such is the case with Neon, a serverless Postgres service, that went generally available on April 15. Congrats Nikita Shamgunov and team on the launch. When I saw the announcement, I knew I had to try it out for myself and report back with my findings. - Source: dev.to / 8 days ago
  • 11 Planetscale alternatives with free tiers
Neon is an open source and cloud-native serverless database platform that focuses on simplicity and ease of use. It supports Postgres databases and offers built-in features like bottomless storage, autoscaling, and branching. - Source: dev.to / 24 days ago
  • Breaking the Myth: Scalable, Multi-Region, Low-Latency App Exists And Will Not Cost You A Kidney.
For MySQL, we've got PlanetScale, and for PostgreSQL, there's Neon. - Source: dev.to / 25 days ago
  • Ask HN: Freelance website builders/maintainers, what's in your 2024 toolkit?
    8. https://neon.tech/As you might know not one tool fits all, I still have strong preferences for the following. It helps me get going faster and get things done right first time and helps in ease of maintenance. Language: Typescript. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • Why PlanetScale broke our trust in database startups
Migrated away when they removed the free tier, ended up using https://neon.tech/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • Parsing the Postgres protocol – logging executed statements
Cool! At Neon[0], I work full time on our custom postgres proxy[1]. It's a very nice protocol to work with, although our usecase is quite a bit more complex compared to the ideas presented in the post. Neon databases scale to zero, so the proxy needs to spin up databases on the fly. The proxy doesn't do that but it knows if the databases is running and asks our control plane to schedule it if it isn't. It's a fun... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • PlanetScale performs layoff and prioritizes profitability
For those looking for alternatives check out https://neon.tech/, https://turso.tech/ and https://developers.cloudflare.com/d1/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • PlanetScale performs layoff and prioritizes profitability
Yea this seems like a gift for https://neon.tech/, https://turso.tech/ and https://developers.cloudflare.com/d1/. Planetscale is definitely popular and they get a lot of free advertisement from tech influencers (may change without the free tier) but most people I know in enterprise haven't heard of it. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • A list of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS offerings that have free tiers of interest to devops and infradev
Neon — Managed PostgreSQL, ten branches, 3 GB of storage per branch, no limit on Active time for the primary department compute, 100 hours of Active time per month (total) for non-primary branch compute. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
  • Ask HN: What web development stack do you prefer in 2024?
Most my personal and side-business projects have very spiky load or just low load in general. Because of that I love using AWS Lambda as my backend since it scales to 0 and scales to whatever you have your limits set at. I use SST [0] for my backend with NodeJS (TypeScript) and Vue (Quasar) for my frontend. For my database I use either Postgres or DynamoDB if the fit is right (Single Table Design is really neat).... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Basic analytics with Vercel Postgres, Drizzle & Astro
I used Vercel Postgres as my database and Astro as my frontend framework. Vercel Postgres is basically a wrapper around Neon, a serverless SQL server provider. Setting up the database is pretty straightforward, I just followed the docs and got my database up and running in no time. Once my database was up and running, the time came to set up the database schema. The schema is pretty simple, it consists of a... - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago
  • AWS cancels serverless Postgres service that scales to zero
Neon is serverless Postgres and does scale to 0. I work at Neon. https://neon.tech. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • AWS cancels serverless Postgres service that scales to zero
There is a good alternative, https://neon.tech check them out. Really good bunch. Product is great and it's open-sourced https://github.com/neondatabase/neon. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Help me figure out architecture and stack for a DRF mobile app (personal project)
However I don't want a local database, I want to take the chance to use a cloud service (never had before), but of course it needs to be free since this is just a personal project, I was thinking maybe Neon. But how about Heroku or Google Cloud? Maybe something for authentication too? Source: 5 months ago
  • Hosted database with a free tier for small projects?
Https://neon.tech could be exact fit - managed Postgres with generous free tier. Source: 5 months ago
  • Show HN: HighContext.ai – Serverless JSON Blob Storage
When a blob is saved, first I write it to Postgres (https://neon.tech), so ensures there's a persisting backup. However, it's typically a waste of money to store infrequently accessed blobs in disk with Postgres over months and years. After 4-6 weeks data is offloaded to object storage - so that you benefit from low long term storage costs. The lifecycle of a blob works out roughly something like as follows, based... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Introducing CloudKit - A production ready Cloudflare Sveltekit template
Neon.Tech Database - I've been using their free tier for ages without hitting any limits so far. The only reason I went ahead and upgraded was because you can only have one project on the free tier. They don't charge you for a month if the bill is under 50 Cent. It's very affordable for what you're getting. Seriously, check them out. - Source: dev.to / 6 months ago
  • Authentication part 3 using NestJS and Postgres database neon.tech
We are going to start using TypeORM as an ORM to help us interact with Postgres, but we also have an example of using Prisma in the future and everything that we have to adapt to switch the ORMs if necessary. At the end we are implementing neon.tech as a production database, right? 😉. - Source: dev.to / 6 months ago
  • Versioning data in Postgres? Testing a Git like approach
Neon does something like this I believe. They allow you to "branch" your databases: https://neon.tech. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Zero-Cost Database Magic 🪄💾
