For two, you can resort to its analogue within the KOMA class/bundle. Depending on your locale, this may require some adjustments for the paper format (ISO A4 vs e.g., US letter), but this is quick click in general setup (in case you happen to use MiKTeX, one of the tabs asks you for the format typically used) and in the .tex preamble. Else, achemso works just fine, i.e. In the text you get the number-based... Source: about 3 years ago
Or, does the flatpack attempt an installation of a large portion/all of TeXLive? (Aiming for a more granular approach, to fetch only the packages I really want [with optional, yet independent download of the documentation] was a major motivation to move to MikTeX (non-Docker) installation equally running from a a thumb drive, or in Linuxes. This was something in close to 100...200 MB in total as a starter... Source: over 3 years ago
On Xubuntu 22.04.1 LTS, I had no problem starting the editor, changing to dark mode, compiling (with pdfLaTeX by with MiXTeX). The suggestions equally show up, just as anticipated, too (screenphoto). The guide to set up an article worked like a charm. Source: over 3 years ago
Texdoc comes with TeXLive only. With MiKTeX (which equally works well in Linux as in Windows, and from a thumb drive), you select the packages (or their documentation, or both) of interest for download. A double click opens the .pdf (screenshot). Source: over 3 years ago
Does the compilation with pdfLaTeX work? Do you use an instance of MiKTeX recently updated? A note about the GUI used would complement a problem report. If you use e.g., TeXStudio, then you already have a preview of the compiled document to monitor the advance of your work. You still can setup the program to open an external pdfviewer (e.g., sumatra) for a subsequent detailed inspection, print to paper of the... Source: over 3 years ago
Because you mention Texniccenter I assume the operating system you use is Windows. Often, your TeX installation is either a ProTeXt DVD/iso (source of the soon retired project), or miktex. MiKTeX can install many of potentially missing usepackages during the first compilation if 1) the computer can connect with the servers of CTAN and 2) the user has permission to install programs on drive C:\. With an export of your .lyx to .tex, which may be submitted to pandoc. The entry Demos showcases some examples from which you may infer the syntax, the entry Demos -> Try pandoc online offers an installation free test ground e.g., from latex to .docx or .odt (or others). The less complex the .tex file, the greater the chances this minimal version will work, so forget (for now) illustrations and bibliographic... Source: over 3 years ago
Give me some rope here, because you don't describe the installation available to you. I assume it is possible for you to collect and process the .md files locally. If so, a joint installation of miktex (for the part of e.g., rendering equations with pdfLaTeX), and pandoc for the conversion of file formats, e.g., markdown to .pdf, is handy. Get and learn LaTeX, e.g. MikTex on Windows. There are a lot of guides, tutorials etc out there, but I recommend the classic The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX and the LaTeX wikibook. Source: almost 4 years ago
Sounds like yet another MikTeX but limited to a XeLaTeX clone, so quite limited. Or am I missing something? Source: almost 4 years ago
1) Install/download an actual LaTeX compiler. Example: MiKTeX. Installing one of these will create a set of executables that can take a LaTeX file and translate it into (for example) a pdf. Note the location of these executables in your file structure. Source: almost 4 years ago
I'll give my two cents on using LaTex for my Resume as well. If you want to start using LaTex I would recommend the VsCode extension LaTeX Workshop. After that is installed you will need a LaTex distribution, I would recommend MixTec for being light. Source: over 4 years ago
Texworks served me well in the past and runs on all platforms, default editor of MikTeX distribution. Source: over 4 years ago
I used the Open Source tool MikTex (https://miktex.org/) for the compiler. Download, install and configure this - it should put a shortcut to TeXworks in your Start Menu programs. Source: over 4 years ago
LaTeX is a markup language. What that means is that instead of using some editor (like in Word) to visually edit together an equation, you use special keywords to describe the format of the equation. For example, instead of having to somehow type the character ฮธ or pick it from a list of symbols, you would write \theta. Then, when you've described your equation, you put it in a LaTeX compiler (such as Overleaf or... Source: over 4 years ago
Hello! I am new to LaTeX, and I am looking to install Texmaker (https://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/) and MiKTeX (https://miktex.org/) on my Windows computer. Are these two resources safe? I am always skeptical of freeware-style applications. Thank you! Source: over 4 years ago
My personal recommendation for an all-in-one package/installation for Windows is TeXWorks within the MiKTeX distribution (i.e. If you download & install this distribution, then open TeXWorks, you're good to go). TeXWorks arranges the windows very nicely side by side where you've got the markup on the left, and the PDF on the right. Source: almost 5 years ago
Hi, I have the latest version of LaTeX Workshop installed on Visual Studio Code and, MikTex's latest version and ActivePerl:. Source: almost 5 years ago
MiKTeX is a widely recognized open-source LaTeX editor known for its ease of use and integrated package management system. This software is particularly favored among Windows users for its simple installation process, making it a staple recommendation for newcomers or those seeking a straightforward LaTeX setup. However, its utility is not limited to Windows; many users appreciate its cross-platform functionality, including compatibility with Linux systems.
One of MiKTeX's primary advantages is its modular nature, allowing users to download and install only the necessary packages. This granular control over package management helps avoid bloated installations and ensures that it remains lightweight. Users can also operate MiKTeX from a USB thumb drive, which offers portability and flexibility, especially in environments with restrictive installation permissions.
The distribution includes TeXworks as its default editor, which provides a seamless LaTeX editing experience. This integration positions MiKTeX as an all-in-one solution that appeals to users who desire an accessible entry into LaTeX without the encumbrance of setting up multiple tools. Notably, the package manager within MiKTeX enables real-time updating and managing of LaTeX packages, which enhances its appeal as a dynamic and adaptable tool for document preparation.
MiKTeX is frequently recommended in educational settings and forums, especially for students new to LaTeX. Its straightforward setup and comprehensive package offering make it an excellent starting point. Furthermore, its association with robust documentation and a wealth of tutorials, such as "The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX," supports learning and mastery of LaTeX conventions and best practices.
The distribution is also noted for accommodating specialized applications, such as compiling complex bibliographies with ACS BibTeX styles. This capability ensures MiKTeX is suitable for academic and professional use, offering tools to manage and format references seamlessly as part of larger LaTeX projects.
While MiKTeX is highly regarded, it faces competition from other LaTeX distributions and editors like Overleaf, TeXstudio, and Texmaker. Some users favor cloud-based solutions like Overleaf for their collaborative features, although MiKTeX continues to stand out for offline capabilities and local installation control.
In community discussions, MiKTeX is often juxtaposed with large distributions like TeX Live. Users seeking more streamlined or specialized installations may prefer MiKTeX for its ability to cater specifically to their needs without downloading extraneous packages. Concerns about freeware and installation reliability are addressed by the software's longevity and consistent updates, which contribute to its trustworthiness.
In conclusion, MiKTeX remains a cornerstone LaTeX distribution for many users. Its combination of ease of use, package management features, and multi-platform compatibility makes it a preferred choice, particularly for Windows users and LaTeX newcomers. With ongoing developments and community support, MiKTeX continues to be an indispensable tool in the realm of LaTeX document preparation.
