  • I Talk to Strangers
While it's not really the same thing, I do enjoy meeting somewhat-random people on https://lunchclub.com. It's biased towards technical people and, unfortunately, I think there's a large gender / diversity gap, but I still get value out of talking with 3 complete strangers each week during 45 minute video calls. I'd love to see such a platform become more mainstream and popular in the city where I'm based, so I... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Ask HN: How did you get rid of your performance anxiety?
Here are some things I've tried. All give a net positive to me being less anxious. - Rejection therapy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rejection_Therapy): get rejected by another person at least once per day. Great practice. - Gardening. Shut off the computer and leave the phone at home. Plan to have several hours doing something you enjoy (for me that is gardening, hikes, beach, ocean) with no screens - Exercise.... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Anyone else have burnout spells, where for 24-48 hours or so you can accomplish absolutely nothing?
I also heard about this website called Lunch Club which was pitched to me as a networking tool that's good for introverts. You pick a topic or career you're interested in, and it matched you with someone who works in the field for a lunch chat. Source: over 1 year ago
  • How can I scale up?
Well, excellent job to date - that's accomplishing a whole lot in one year! It may sound cliche, but attending meetups is the easiest way to network. But, virtual connections are also very useful and take a lot less time. Look up online communities, or try out lunchclub. Source: over 1 year ago

Lunchclub: Somewhat random, but there’s actually a fair # of people trying to do useful things here. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • How do I find a Director+ role? Are there specific head hunting companies I should engage with? I don’t have a lot of contacts outside of my geographical location. Blindly applying online seems like a bad idea.
Conferences are a great avenue. If you're employed right now, you could probably attend on your employer's dime. I would imagine you could benefit from attending the ones catered towards big wigs and execs. If travel is difficult, you could also use something like Lunchclub to get matched with people. I haven't done it in a while, but I believe there is a way to target executives in a particular industry. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Where can I find a free career counselor or career mentor who can provide guidance on how to become a digital nomad given my unique challenges and qualifications and skills?
I joined Lunch Club when the pandemic and lockdowns started (Mar 2020) and hung around for a few months. At the time, it was an invite-only platform that allowed you to connect with professionals around the world based on specific criteria e.g. If you're looking to brainstorm a project, or if you're looking for an investor, etc. You pick what you're looking for and they match. It was very hit and miss, but I did... Source: almost 2 years ago

  • 2 years of isolation made me forget how to socialize and make friends
I had a solitary month in grad school before we went online. Still trying to recover. https://lunchclub.com/ has helped a bit, I'vehad (virtual ) lunches with VC's investing in Afrian, Canadians with a home sharing startup who invited me to speak in their weekly clubhouse room on the economics challenges in the homemarket, french financial engineers working on martingale optimal transport . The kind of people I... Source: about 2 years ago
  • Show HN: What do you think of my new social app?
That's really interesting - do you use anything like Meetup.com or are you on any discord/slack servers? There is a cool app that I've been using called Lunchclub (https://lunchclub.com/), it links you with another person one time a week. Might be worth trying if you haven't already. Otherwise I'd really been keen to chat on how we could solve that problem! Completely true about the people discovery apps (probably... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
  • Typically, how difficult is it to find an adequate technical partner?
You might be able to find a technical cofounder on lunchclub.com. I've had a good experience talking with people on their about ideas, and they have a setting which is specifically geared to that. I think if the deal is just equity, you'll need to have a convincing pitch. The cofounder will need to believe in it just as much as you. Source: over 2 years ago
  • I am working alone.

  • How can I accept my life is what it is?
Https://www.hearme.app/ is a good start. No commitment, but it's only a starting point. https://lunchclub.com/ was good but less people now, also http://www.dialup.com. These are starting points but eventually you'll need to find/build relationships with people from your description anyway. Source: over 2 years ago
  • How do you meet new people?
I am actually using https://lunchclub.com/ right now. It is like omegle but scheduled. I like the concept but the issue here is we both are agreeing to talk to each other so it kinda waters down the talk to strangers on the spot portion. Source: about 3 years ago
  • From Digital Marketing to Front End Engineer during a Pandemic: Lessons Learned, Resources & Tips
I made an account on LunchClub — they connect you with other professionals so that you can network virtually. Everything is currently remote - your job, the bootcamp, networking events, meetups, etc. So I wanted to practice being able to hold a conversation with people virtually. To learn to ask the right questions and break through the awkwardness we all feel. It's a valuable skill for interviewing AND genuinely... - Source: dev.to / about 3 years ago
