  • I just wanted to share with you a cool lighting effect I made for 2D drawings.
Yes it's blender! I just painted normal maps by hand. Red for right side and green for up- It's very quick to do if you master well volume. And the good things, is that it deduce the down, and left.. So it can do cool stuff! If you don't want to paint it, there is this cool software that can do it : Https://azagaya.itch.io/laigter. • Is it possible to "procedurally" add shading (shadows and highlights) to my sprite, so when rotated, the shading doesn't just stay on the same side? (Godot 4)
If you need a tool to make normal maps (The tech behind the 2D lighting you desire) I recommend laigter: https://azagaya.itch.io/laigter. Source: 11 months ago
  • AI generated normal maps: are we there yet?
I really like the normal maps this tool generates for 2D assets: https://azagaya.itch.io/laigter. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Normal maps are a god send
There's also Laigter, which makes it incredibly easy to generate normal maps for textures. I've used it for wall and ground textures in the past to great effect. :). Source: over 1 year ago
  • A quick broken-down cart I made tonight. Hand-pixeled in Aseprite, normal maps and light animation created in SpriteIlluminator
However the march of time continues and searching around there now seems to be a free opensource alternative that you might want to investigate that got an EPIC MegaGrant: Laigter. Source: over 1 year ago
  • from a 2d standpoint, what can the more developed engines like Unity or Unreal do in comparison to something like Godot?
    - You have to search but godot offers dialogic as a plugin for dialog management as well as many other neat plugins you can get for free or purchase. I like the laigter plugin and it´s occlusion map generator, as it gives an awesome new possibility to the engine. Source: over 1 year ago
  • 2D Lighting Test in Godot
Made using Godot and https://azagaya.itch.io/laigter to generate normal maps. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Let there be (better) light! The difference that changing the lighting and slapping on some auto-generated normal maps can make without touching anything else ✨
I accidentally turned off my custom lighting earlier and the difference astounded me, as I haven't seen what my game looks like without it for a while. The normal maps auto-generated by Laigter without much tweaking at all make such an improvement for little to no effort at all. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Anyone know a good tutorial for top down pixel art normal mapping?
I don't know of any tutorials, but I do know of this tool. Hope that helps in some way. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Showing our fast-travel system!
Thanks! Its done with normal maps generated with my tool Laigter and a custom shader. Source: almost 3 years ago
