I use this whenever I want to just write an expression and screenshot it and send it to someone or donโt feel like doing a whole formatted document. Still, itโs mostly experience thatโs gonna get you to the point where you can make aligned stuff (proofs), tables, or just recall stuff from memory but IMO itโs a better learning curve than reading some 50 page pdf on LaTeX. Just to make sure it is clear (a+b) is supposed to be subscript but reddit formatting is no good for equations. So S(a+b) is the standard deviation of the joint probability distribution that results from combining distribution A and B. And S(a+b)^2 is the variance of said distribution. Perhaps I could have written it better as S^2_{(a+b)}which will evaluate as intended if you plug it in to an online LaTeX... Source: over 4 years ago
