  • Google Banned Me from Google Voice
I've been playing around with https://jmp.chat/ (SMS and Voice over XMPP) and might make the switch for my main number soon. - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
  • Ask HN: Escape from TCR? Family Shared SMS
Https://jmp.chat/ has worked well for me. SMS is delivered over XMPP, and phone calls can use either XMPP or SIP (I use SIP). They use person-to-person routes for SMS so none of the TCR BS applies. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Honeybee: Calling via XMPP
Another option for this is JMP from Singpolyma: https://jmp.chat/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Signal: Keep your phone number private with Signal usernames
Why do you need a German phone number? Many countries let anyone have a phone number, with no proof of address or other identifying information. Just use one of those numbers instead. One example service is https://jmp.chat/ but there are many others. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Google Voice goes US only
Https://jmp.chat/ has been great for me, uses bandwidth behind the scenes and wraps the experience in a nice XMPP UX. Calls and texts work, only issues I've run into are the usual some services don't accept VOIP numbers, and group texts > 10 people I can receive but not send messages (bandwidth provider limitation AFAIK). Bonus is that their stack is all open source and since it's XMPP you can use whatever clients... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Self-Hosted VOIP based around wifi calling
TLDR - I want to be able to take a bunch of sim cards, and use them to forward phones and SMS's to my actual phone. This would enable me to easily split my phone numbers up to multiple services without relying on third party hosts like jmp.chat or voip.ms. Another key tenant is that I want to avoid doing the calls and SMS's themselves over cellular - instead, wanting to rely on wifi-calling (VoWifi) - The point of... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Cophone – Your Virtual Smartphone
You might try https://jmp.chat. I'm very happy with them, I get SMS for everything I've tried(though I haven't tried everything/much). - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Porting a number to Google Voice to protect a number from porting attacks...
Lol. Yeah, expect no privacy on the number. SMS isn't encrypted and its a pretty insecure and outdated technology nowadays, and if you're using it through Google Voice, Google will 100% have full access to your texts and calls through the number, which is obviously pretty horrible for privacy, especially with Google's terrible reputation and track record. If privacy is your concern, I'd recommend JMP. Its very... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Browsing Facebook without Facebook
Before creating an account, keep in mind: Facebook requires your phone number and they send a verification code to that number to verify your identity. There are services like jmp.chat where you don't have to give out your real number, although I haven't tested it with Facebook. You could just buy a SIM with cash, verify yourself, then throw away the SIM. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Building a Personal VoIP System
Unfortunately, Twilio is no longer a viable option for sending SMS for personal use. If you want to send SMS you have to register a "campaign" and jump through a bunch of hoops that assume you're a company sending a large volume of application-generated messages (e.g. You must disclose samples of the types of messages you intend to send, and get explicit opt-in from recipients). Up until now, I've managed to... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Building a Personal VoIP System
This is pretty much exactly the problem that we originally created https://jmp.chat to solve, no sip or complex setup needed these days for that use case. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Multiple/burner numbers on jmp.chat?
I use my MySudo on grapheneOS. You can't set it up originally on grapheneos but you can bring an account over. It works fine. Signal works on grapheneos. Jmp.chat needs one number per XMPP (not just cheogram) account. Some XMPP clients handle multiple accounts. So yes, one Jabber ID per jmp.chat number. Source: over 1 year ago
  • An idea for being able to buy SIMs with balance and stuff with Monero
Do you know about jmp.chat? Also I can pick up a sim for cash and top it off every month with crypto via crypto gift cards pretty easily. Source: over 1 year ago
  • SMS Verification Numbers
I'm using https://jmp.chat/ . Working with Facebook, Whatsapp and Telegram. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • [QUESTION] Is there any way i can buy a second phone number with monero?
You can do this via xmmp (conversations works on android) with https://jmp.chat/ Im not sure if initial sign up you can use monero yet - apparently they were working on it. Maybe contact them to use monero or use an easy-exchanger to pay in BTC. You can top up with monero after you have signed up. Pretty easy process. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Change registered number with jmp.chat?
Is there a way to change numbers in jmp.chat? The current number I use seems to have problems :/. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • I'm so confused about what to do with my phone numbers to maintain privacy
For simple SMS you don't need a cell plan. A jmp.chat number is adequate for that. MySudo is good but not as anonymous as ultimately tied to real number. But it will slow them down a bit and make it harder to track you everywhere by your real number. I took my used everywhere for years old number and ported it to Google Voice and got pay as you go sims for de-googled phone that I gave to friends and family. ... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Does anyone else feel like privacy is nearly impossible to have?
To pretty much any web form that asks. For most of them the site has no real business knowing any of this. Make it a happy to give it more anonymous alts if they have any need to use it at all and to give it made up stuff if they don't . I don't know of anything hardly that would happily deliver to an alias. There are many ways to shield with anonymous email for anything that actually needs to contact you by... • Does anyone else feel like privacy is nearly impossible to have?
I moved to well honed de-googled grapheneos and stopped using a bunch of spying apps for more private alternatives if needed at all. I trained family and friends to call/text using Signal (still a work in progress). I put a few people in favorites that can ring through but the rest go to voicemail. I have jmp.chat numbers for things that may want to 2FA or some such by text but have no business knowing my main... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • I'm so confused about what to do with my phone numbers to maintain privacy
Phone numbers have been a thorn in my side for a long time. Privacy advocates hate them with a passion. Sure, you have services like jmp.chat but social media can detect you're using that since it blacklists the numbers these services use. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Free software in my smartphone
Never give out your true phone number -- only use VOIP numbers. I like JMP.chat. Source: almost 2 years ago
