Hi /r/googlefiber. I had a home burglarized and the GFRG200 box was stolen. I moved to a safer area and called to cancel service. I am on the free grandfathered plan. It was a house I just used for storage and I kept the 5mbps service just for convenience as it was free. Now I am told I have to pay $200 for the lost equipment. I have found used boxes MUCH cheaper but am concerned since the missing equipment serial... Source: about 1 year ago

While we are in the early days of the expansion we should all use the check availability option on https://fiber.google.com/ to let them know where and who is interested. They monitor things like this when planning build outs. Also at this point they would still be working with local officials so if you have a moment it wouldn't hurt to reach out to your local city council person and let them know they should... I believe you just go to fiber.google.com and start your account. You should be able to either bring your own router, or get a free access point router from google. Source: almost 2 years ago

OP - you did not state that up front that it was working prior. I bumped you up. Good for you. Look at Modems qualified by Cox On DOCSIS compliance with full rates. Read some reviews. I like to separate my Modem and wifi and I have business class networking in my home with wifi and wired subnets. For heavy users, if you can get away from consumer grade products, you will have a better experience. I have Cox... Source: about 2 years ago

Fiber-to-the-home still exists in the markets where it's been deployed (e.g. TN, KS, TX, UT). If you go to the Fiber website and look at the list of cities, the ones that don't bounce you to the Webpass site are wired. But yeah, trenching and utility pole access + municipal politics are a wicked combo for business development. Source: over 2 years ago
Google is a web business, they make money by people using the web and giving up their data and attention in exchange for useful services like email, storage or search. So it makes sense for them to ensure as many people can access the internet as possible, and the experience is positive. Source: over 2 years ago
