  • Why are so many books listed as "Borrow Unavailable" at the Internet Archive?
Yes, great works of art can and should be preserved by making images and data freely available. How much of that is being done? Quite frankly, I don't know, but there are a number of museums that make their collections available to view online. Check out some of the links below. https://www.louvre.fr/en/online-tours#virtual-tours https://www.si.edu/exhibitions/online https://artsandculture.google.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 days ago
  • El Prado Museum in Unprecedented Detail with New 360º Gigapixel Virtual Tour
Google Arts & Culture has hundreds of excellent 360 museum (and other cultural site) tours here: https://artsandculture.google.com/ Separately, you can also zoom in to many artworks with extreme detail (e.g. 1000+ dpi). - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
  • Can you even 'digitally curate' historical works? What counts as curation?
Google art & culture is a terrific example if you are looking for one. Source: 9 months ago
  • How do I get a custom print of a piece of art?
If this is the case, hurdle #2 is getting a high resolution scan of the work. Your first stop should be the museum's website - they might have it right there for download. If it's a really well-known artist or piece, you might also find it at https://artsandculture.google.com/ - they have thousands of hi-res scans. Source: about 1 year ago
  • My 3 year old son drew "a rooster"
Uh, yeah. You need to create and environment for him to do this all the time. You need to drop money on supplies and see which he gravitates towards. You need to feed all the art in the world and see what he gravitates to, you can do this with with a Google Arts and Culture account You need to get season passes to set museums so he can study the textures and light. You need not to push this aside. He needs to... Source: over 1 year ago
  • *actual* high-res artworks for downloading
Found an even better way though. Check out Google Arts and Culture, they have a really nice selection of high res artwork. Normally you can't download them but with this nifty tool here (should warrant its own post here) it's possible to download the full res pics in png. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Daily painting for wallpaper
You could kindly ask the dev to port it on windows as well ( jimmy@artdiario.com ) or try https://www.getdailyart.com/ (you can emulate Android on Windows) or maybe make some noise and aks some dev on fiverr to write a software that scrapes art form https://www.artdiario.com/art and https://artsandculture.google.com/ (always wanted a way to download hires pictures from this). • I am teaching a high school Art History class and need some advice...
Google Arts and Culture is a great resource with a fairly good selection. A lot of the art is photographed at very high resolution, and allows for some really impressive zooming. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Looking for art work
As for page weathering, search some library site (artsandculture.google.com is a good starting point) for ancient books. You should be able to find some physical tome from a thousand years ago that has public-domain photos of it. Find a high resolution one, find a part of a page that's well-weathered, and use that as a page background, possibly with modification. My stuff with a page background is using a blank... • Hey guys I’m having some trouble finding a piece of art to critique for this assignment. Any suggestions?
You can search for the terms on google arts & culture, there are quite a few options there. Good luck! Source: over 1 year ago

  • Where does google get its images for chromecast screen savers?
The art images are sourced via Google Arts and Culture. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Why is looking at art online such a pain?
Https://artsandculture.google.com/ is a good website for looking at what they have, but it's not a true encyclopaedia of art like it should be. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Recommendations?
I would also recommend Smarthistory, Wikiart and Google Arts and Culture . The first is a resource on art history, the second gives an overview of the oeuvre of artists and the third is a bit of both. You can also create your own collections on A&C, which is nice and helps a lot (favourite works, works you want to study a bit more...). There's also a plethora of YouTube Channels out there... From the niche and... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • how can i get into art more?
A lot of art galleries/museums have expansive art collections online for free including virtual tours, online exhibitions, and articles. Google Arts & Culture is a great resource for all of these things. A few major art museums/galleries with good online collections include the Tate, MoMA, National Gallery, and Met Museum. A lot of them have social media pages you can follow. On the topic of social media: Many... Source: about 2 years ago

  • what's the name of this kind of layout and is it relevant?
Google Art & Culture website (https://artsandculture.google.com/) use the same layout for their hero section. Source: about 2 years ago
  • How Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) is Transforming Education
Google Arts & Culture, formally known as Google Expeditions, is working to feature content from over 2,000 museums globally. Google users can receive free admission into The Palace Museum in Beijing, solve a puzzle of Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring", walk inside the Colosseum in Rome, create their own music with Blob Opera, or discover their art doppelganger, all through using AR and VR. Google Arts & Culture has a bunch of really hi-res fine art images from museums around the world. You can't download them directly, but if you paste the link into Dezoomify it will convert it into a downloadable image for you. There's also a Dezoomify browser extension which makes it easier. • How/Where do you all consume art during the pandemic?
I actually got into art history during the pandemic. I took some online courses. There is also google arts and culture where you can find lots of collections. I also like to look at some nice art books. Source: over 2 years ago
