  • connecting with my roots
If you are still searching for people and connections then geni.com is the place. And if you come around independence day then on 24th February around 07:30 there will be a flag ceremony at Toompea... Later on, you can go and have a glass of cognac, tea and potato salad(or kiluvõileib) in oldtown cafes. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Are there any programs for creating family trees?
There is also geni.com where you can enter your family tree and people can view it. Caveat, it went from being free to $$$ and was taken over and now they want subs. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • I’m not an expert in history, but I’m confused how my 9th great grandmother died in Massachusetts, could this be from colonialism of the USA and also warfare with native Americans in Massachusetts at the time? But I’m also confused because her husband died in Somerset in England..
Geni.com has both her and her husband John Allen being born in Connecticut instead of England. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Help - How can I find Finnish family history?
    1) The lowest hanging fruit is trying to find work done by others from sites such as geni.com, MyHeritage etc. At least I have been able to get very good information from such sites by searching with family names. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Help - How can I find Finnish family history?
Try geni.com I can trace most of my Finnish family roots here until they jump to Germany & Switzerland in beginning of 1600. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • I'm researching my Finnish side - can you help me translate these names (and dates) once more? I've finally found the right record on a difficult line on our Finnish side!
The wive can actually be found from geni.com! see: https://www.geni.com/people/Maria-Kokko/6000000182720557839. - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • Can someone from finland read these names and Text on an old photo?
Have you checked geni.com? Because some of your Finnish relatives might have done a family tree there, so you might find stuff there. Usually when people are into genealogy they make quite extensive trees and when you know names and birthdates etc, you can check if they belong to someone's tree. - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • Need to find parents
She is on geni.com which incorrectly lists her birth date as 1831. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • DNA upload sites
I uploaded my DNA to geni.com, but I haven't gotten any value from it. Ancestry & 23&Me have been the best for me. I found my mom's bio parents. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Might Research but records might be scant
Trying to find the parents of Ichiel Distilyator (listed as I. Michell Distiller on findagrave), born probably in Ukraine in 1845 and dying in 1915 in Baltimore, I know Ichiel also has 4 Siblings, and im also trying to find the parents of Ichiel's wife, Gitel Greenspun (listed as Goldie Distiller on findagrave), Gitel was probabl born in 1855 in Ukraine (geni.com for some reason lists her as being born in 1831)... - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • Austrian Citizenship for Descendants Questions and Info
I filled out the questionnaire and I'm not sure where to go from there. I sent an email to the Austrian Consulate in NYC (I am from NJ) but haven't received a reply. Should I wait or is there more I can do? I found my ancestors on geni.com but not sure how to get the proof they require. - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • Family Tree of the House of Bourbon-Bhopal, The Indian branch of the Bourbon Dynasty
Now some of this stuff may not be correct. I say that because my only source was geni.com and the Facebook page of the Royal House of Bourbon-Bhopal. - Source: Reddit / 11 months ago
  • Duggar Family Genealogical Research - Evidence of Owning Slaves
Thanks! Lol - glad someone appreciates it. We used Familysearch.org primarily for the physical records, but also geni.com, findagrave.com, and just google. I do this often for work, so I'm kind of familiar with the free sources. In this case, I at least didn't use any paid services like newspapers.com (although that may not have helped) or lexusnexus (again, not likely to help here). - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
  • Roger and Brianna are technically related
Yeah it's wild. If you have any European ancestry at all you're actually related to any semi-famous medieval person/king/nobility. There's a website called geni.com where you can enter all your geneology info (provided you know at least a few generations back) and it'll show you how you're related to like, Alfred the Great, or Henry II, or John of Gaunt, or whoever. - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago
  • New BLG Drop! Meghans Narcissistic Display on Larry King
If you have your family tree through ancestry or 23andme or anywhere like that, then geni.com will put it in "the world tree" and you can waste spend countless hours looking up various people. I am willing to bet that you're related to some fancy-pants families. If I'd had to do the work the hard way, by hand, I'd not know much of this pedigree stuff. As things stand, though, this online genealogy is all over... - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • New BLG Drop! Meghans Narcissistic Display on Larry King
I'm sure Catherine is related to William somehow. Heck, the Queen is my eleventh cousin once removed, according to geni.com. (Maybe I should put on airs like Markle? LOL!) If you have British ancestry, you are probably related to them, too. Remember, the UK is not a huge nation, and it is a tiny bit harder for new population to reach it due to it being an island. The whole "six degrees of separation" really... - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • Witch Ancestry?
It all depends on the specific people in the chain of relatives. Each person in the chain has an entry and it might or might not have the information you are looking for. Some genealogists who work on entries on geni.com are really good about including digital copies of birth and death records, marriage certificates, etc. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • Witch Ancestry?
If you have an account on the genealogy website geni.com, and your family tree on there is sufficiently filled out so that you've gotten linked in to other family trees, there is a trick you can use to look up connections with all sorts of people like historical figures, celebrities, etc. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
