  • Mastodon for Developers: Everything You Need to Know
Friendica servers (social networking and microblogging). - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago
  • How does Mastodon work?
Mastodon is software for microblogging, like twitter. You may be more interested in Friendica (https://friendi.ca/), which aims to be more like facebook (i think). Not the same as facebook, just as mastodon isn't the same as twitter. They're trying to do things better with more privacy. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Stop
To be fair, its not Mastodon, its the #Fediverse. Mastodon is arguably the least rich platfrom on the 'verse. IMHO Friendica is where its at, and you can still communicate with all the twitter refugees on Mastodon, as well as meater content on services likeDiaspora*, not to mention full integration with Lemmy (which works fairly similar to Reddit) while Masto you can see lemmy posts and replies without having to... - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Which facebook alternative is the closest to facebook feature-wise
There's friendica which is decentralised but you had to host your own server or at least join some random server but if you don't mind setting up a server for it, you might like it. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Organization should run its own Mastodon server
Friendica (https://friendi.ca/) is Wordpress-level easy; it's got a similar stack. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • Celebrities are starting to leave Twitter. Here's a running list.
ActivityPub is a decentralized social network used by Mastodon, which resembles an older version of Twitter, as well as Pixelfed, which resembles older Instagram, Friendica, which resembles older Facebook, and others. - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • Is Friendica a good replacement for Facebook?
And they recommended Friendica as a replacement for Facebook : https://friendi.ca/. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • Confused beginner question on mirroring
Mastodon might be the wrong thing for you here, as it's more akin to Twitter. For Instagram you're better off with Pixelfed, for Facebook it would be Friendica. The advantage is that all of these can still talk to each other. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago
  • Will Europe Force a Facebook Blackout?
AFAIK Friendica is closer to Facebook in function, with different community groups and such. It's part of the Fediverse too so kinda compatible with Mastodon. I haven't tried it though. Someone recommend a server? - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • Our own social media
After what happened, I think it's the time to craft our own little social media. Decentralized social media. I'm not talking about Facebook, Twitter or even Reddit. I'm talking about social media like Mastodon, Pleroma and Friendica. What we need is work together actually. Some of us co-op by give time to host and maintain the VPS or dedicated server, others maybe help by moderate it and others help by donations... - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago
  • Ask HN: What's an app or business you wish somebody else would build?
How about https://friendi.ca/ then? - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Elon Musk Buys Twitter for $44B
I've never looked for one, but I'm sure open-source, federated alternatives to Facebook already exist. Friendica seems like a popular one, but I've never used it. - Source: Reddit / 11 months ago
  • The open internet: The Fediverse
As an example I visited Friendica and Mastodon, which both have nice listings of public instances (there's also FOSStodon for FOSS - Free and/or Open Source topics). The problem is, you have no idea about what's going on inside an instance, apart from the description. - Source: dev.to / about 1 year ago
  • Something like Facebook or MeWe but open source and private?
Https://friendi.ca/ may be what you're trying to find. It is fundamentally different in the way that it's organized, so read the website. - Source: Reddit / about 1 year ago

  • Seeking Recommendations: Decentralized Option for Something like a Facebook Group?
You could have a look at Friendica (https://friendi.ca/). The UI looks a bit dated, but other than that it is fully functional and is the platform within the Fediverse that is closest to Facebook in terms of functionality. It supports Forums, which is the equivalent to Facebook groups. Furthermore, it federates both with ActivityPub based services like Mastodon and also with Diaspora. What I personally also like... - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • Social Networks
Nextcloud is probably among your better packaged options. Free Software / OSS: Share and collaborate on documents, send and receive email, manage your calendar and have video chats without data leaks. https://nextcloud.com/ For a Twitter equivalent, Mastodon. Facebook's a bit more of a challenge --- longer-form content, the ability to group contacts, and the like. Principally there are Diaspora*,... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

Https://zotsite.net/ or https://friendi.ca/ approximate Facebook, Telegram, LinkedIn on features (ignoring network effects). - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
