    Deleted my account for "advertising"

Former blogger for Second Life virtual world. ~ Had my account revoked after I was told my blogging was "advertising", even though 100's of other users do the exact same thing. Years of work down the tubes. Will never use it again. ~ Note: They are doing this to push for "PRO" memberships, because the company is hurting for money.

    ๐Ÿ Competitors: Instagram, Facebook

  • Instagram alternatives for promoting business, now that EU laws messed it up?
Is flickr.com still alive? It used to be so cool back in the day, but I dropped off from photography in general over like the past decade, so have no clue how things are going over there. Source: over 2 years ago
  • 20mm or 35mm prime lens
20mm will look wider on your Z6II than your D40x but it should look the same as it does on any other FX body like the D780 or the D850. Go on flickr.com and search for photos taken with 20mm lenses. You can type 20mm in the search bar. Make sure you look at photos taken with full a full frame camera. If those match the look you are going for, go ahead and grab the 20mm. Source: about 3 years ago

  • Question to Experienced ancestry user:
When you scan your images, you can reduce the quality. You might consider getting a subscription to an on-line photo system, like flickr.com, where you can upload original images of high quality. You could have lower-quality ones on ancestry, or just use an outside link to the photo record you have. Source: about 3 years ago

So if you have high traffic/static content (f.ex. https://flickr.com/) then CF is a steal. You don't get 100% SLA with pro, you need business for that (200$ a month). Source: over 3 years ago
  • [Alamance County, NC] S. occipitomaculata?
Nothing definitive, but it definitely looks more like S. Dekayi to me. I have a little list I compiled to help people learn to recognize the differences between these two which I'll post below. Won't help a lot here (though it might help you understand why I lean in one direction rather than the other), but it might help if you see another and will definitively help if you want to get some practice using good... • Looking at a beginner camera for planespotting
If you're just documenting what you see then any good "superzoom camera" (<-- google that) will do. They're small and lightweight point-n-shoot cameras that have good enough image and video quality and affordable zoom capabilities. Your money will go a lot farther with one of those. That said - their image quality is not going to win many photography prizes. After you're done googling around and found a few... Source: almost 4 years ago

Summary of the public mentions of Flickr

Flickr, originally launched in 2004, continues to foster a vibrant community for photographers and enthusiasts seeking online image hosting and sharing solutions. Situated amidst competitors like Imgur, Google Photos, and Instagram, Flickr presents a distinct mix of social networking and professional-grade photo organization that holds relevance in today's digital world.

Core Features and Functionality

Flickrโ€™s primary appeal lies in its robust capabilities for image storage, organization, and sharing. It offers users the ability to sort and search for photos and videos by diverse metrics such as name, activity, and upload date. This functionality supports a convenient experience for photo management. Users have access to advanced photographic search options, which include categorization by camera type, enriching the userโ€™s capacity to explore and engage with different photography genres.

For those seeking premium experiences, Flickr Pro introduces a suite of features like ad-free browsing, automatic uploads, and advanced analytics. The in-depth statistics, revealing insights into image popularity and viewer interaction, present significant value for professional photographers and businesses aiming to enhance their online presence.

Community and Cultural Impact

Flickr is celebrated as a community-centric platform that provides a sanctuary for photographers to share their work, gain inspiration, and network with like-minded individuals. As a popular choice for photo amateurs and professionals alike, it serves as a repository of high-quality images, serving both personal inspiration and public dissemination purposes. Its historical significance as one of the Web 2.0 pioneers highlights its enduring influence in the digital realm.

Limitations and Challenges

Despite its longstanding reputation and user base, with over 80 million registered users at a point, Flickr has experienced shifts in public perception. A notable drawback arose when the free user capacity was reduced from a generous 1TB to just 1,000 images, presenting a significant limitation and potentially influencing its competitive stance compared to unlimited options offered by other platforms.

The strategic decisions to improve its mobile app functionality by owners like Yahoo, and now SmugMug, aim to maintain and attract a mobile-centric clientele, crucial for relevancy in the modern app-driven eraโ€”but the change in free storage capacity still dampens its perceived value among free-tier users.

Public Perception and Usage Trends

In recent discussions, Flickr holds a nostalgic association for longtime users while remaining a valuable tool for new entrants exploring the photography domain. Its name frequently surfaces in connection with searching and sharing high-quality images, as well as discussions around effective photo storage solutions. Flickr remains a go-to recommendation for enthusiasts looking to explore comprehensive image collections tailored to specific lenses or cameras.

Overall, Flickr enjoys favorable recognition for its photographic community and functional features, while its financial model continues to invite scrutiny. Yet, it endures as a significant component of the online photo-sharing and hosting ecosystem, blending functionality, professional capability, and community engagement.
