  Please try to reinstall Messenger. Uninstall it with official way and then download it from messenger.com to be sure. After uninstalling I recommend to scan your system with some kind software like Malwarebytes and ADW Cleaner. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago

  It's the icon next to Software Update that's throwing me off, but the version numbers seem to line up.   You're right, Chrome in android defaults to the messenger app install page. But I just, as a consequence of your questions, installed the Opera browser from Google Play Store, and entered messenger.com address and it came up with a logon screen that worked for my messenger account. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago

  I think if you're able to use Facebook for just the tools - Messenger, Events, Marketplace, small groups (for hobbies and not polarizing things), etc. Then it works pretty well.
