  • Manjaro Linux prepares to enable telemetry by default
Manjaro has been a trash arch fork for some time. https://endeavouros.com would be a better choice these days. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Using Linux Full-Time 2 years later
And I ended up picking EndeavourOS, Why? Manjaro had a bad reputation at the time of my research and the package holding back, Garuda has too much eye candy in the fresh install that bugs me, Arco... • help out a noob
Usually I recommend linux mint for beginners but hyprland may be a little bit hard to install there. So maybe in your case the best option is an arch based system with a graphical installer. A lot of people here recommend endeavourOS. Download the iso, install it to a VM and take your first steps. Once you are a little bit familiar with it, you may try to set up dual boot and run it on bare metal. Take small... Source: over 1 year ago
  • I don't understand audio, I experiment things with my laptop audio, it will work then it won't work. (Using EasyEffects)
Let me close with a tip. Check out the Arch Wiki. IIRC EndevourOS is a fork of Arch. Note the British spelling ;-). Source: about 2 years ago
  • How exactly does dual boot work?
Taking my advice means you might want to remove Arch, for now. Get Mint or Pop, spend some time with them to learn more about Linux, how Linux works, the various software and tools, how to configure and customize it. Once you are more knowledgeable (weeks/months later), then go read the Arch Wiki. Along with reading the Arch Wiki check out Average Linux User on youtube (... Source: about 2 years ago

  • Is artix a good alternative to manjaro
However, if you're bothered by how it's more geared towards gamers, then perhaps consider EndeavourOS or Arch Linux instead. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Net Thread Issues, Fps/Ms (Solution)
You could also consider making the switch to Linux and give the bird to Microsoft all together. I've been gaming with Nobara (https://nobaraproject.org/) and EndeavourOS (https://endeavouros.com/) exclusively for the last year to good effect. • Distro for general use, light gaming and 3D modelling
Arch: "The wet-dream of the minimalist and/or tinkerer". Huge community. Best documentation. Expects the user to be knowledgeable or at least (very) eager to learn. Tends to be less stable\1]) than the other two, though in general the user is to blame. • Steam Deck is a DREAM for retro emulation!
No need to wait around, download something like EndeavourOS which is pretty similar to steamOS as in it is based on the arch linux distribution. Doesn’t need anything complex, graphical installer and comes with all the drivers you need (afaik, it comes with the proprietary nvidia driver, max performance out of the box for nvidia cards), also rocks an AppStore and whatever. All games which work on steam deck work... Source: about 2 years ago
  • I want to get started with a Linux dayli driver.
Unfortunately Manjaro's trackrecord leaves a lot to be desired. Is there any particular reason why you'd recommend it over the likes of EndeavourOS or Garuda Linux? I am genuinely curious, btw*. Source: about 2 years ago
  • $~4k 'Treat yourself' setup - anything obviously wrong? Haven't done this for a long time.

  • A distro for a newbie?
Fair enough. Give EndeavourOS a try if you want more up to date packages. The Arch Linux ecosystem is cozy. Source: about 2 years ago
  • I tried so hard, and got so far...
Try https://endeavouros.com/ . It sticks to the core Arch Linux philosophy, even using the Arch repositories. It just has a better GUI installer and some helping hands for some of the things that are difficult for non-expert Linux users (or ppl who just want a working OS). Full disk encryption with custom positions worked flawlessly. It also has a supportive community that offers help without all the troll... Source: about 2 years ago
  • In your opinion, what is the most user-friendly, bleeding-edge, yet stable Linux distro for a Windows user?
User-friendly, Bleeding-edge, yet stable is a bit contradictory. Maybe look at EndeavourOS (Plasma?) which is the easiest to install and maintain of all the arch-based distro's? It might be a challenge (worth it though) but it has a massive and friendly support community if any help is needed. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Today i woke up and this very important question popped up in my mind: how many people who own a SteamDeck are also using Linux as their daily driver?

Summary of the public mentions of EndeavourOS

EndeavourOS has emerged as a noteworthy contender in the Linux distribution landscape, particularly for users interested in rolling-release models that balance accessibility and advanced features. Derived from Arch Linux, EndeavourOS offers a straightforward installation experience with its customized Calamares installer, which distinguishes it from the typically complex installation process of Arch Linux.

Community Perception and Usability

While EndeavourOS is not specifically tailored for novice Linux users, it is increasingly popular among individuals who have some familiarity with Linux and are seeking an Arch-based experience without the steep learning curve usually associated with Arch. The distribution maintains the core philosophy and repositories of Arch Linux, thereby attracting users who appreciate a minimalistic approach but desire a more approachable entry point. The inclusion of multiple desktop environments—such as Xfce by default, with options to install others like Plasma, Gnome, or Cinnamon during setup—caters to a variety of user preferences, enhancing its flexibility.

The distribution is frequently recommended as an alternative to Manjaro and direct Arch installations. Community discussions often highlight EndeavourOS's simplicity in installation and the capability to customize extensively, allowing users to tailor their systems according to specific needs. It is worth noting that while EndeavourOS offers a simpler initial experience, it still requires users to be proactive in managing and understanding their system, aligning with its Arch roots.

Community and Resources

A significant advantage of EndeavourOS is its active and supportive community, which is notably welcoming and inclined towards assisting newcomers without the traditional gatekeeping often seen in Arch and other Linux communities. This support network, combined with the distribution’s documentation, provides a solid backbone for users transitioning from more mainstream operating systems or Linux distributions.

Recent mentions suggest that EndeavourOS has gained favor due to its balanced approach and responsiveness to community feedback, especially in contrast to competitors like Manjaro, which has faced criticism over some of its practices, such as the proposed default telemetry. Users tend to appreciate the rolling-release model for access to the most recent software packages and the absence of unnecessary default bloatware, which is a common critique of other distributions aimed at similar user bases.

Final Observations

EndeavourOS stands out in the Linux distribution market as a bridge between the control and flexibility offered by Arch Linux and the usability that newcomers or intermediate users often seek. It is lauded not only for its technical merits but also for its community-driven approach, ensuring that the distribution remains both a viable starting point for those new to Arch-like systems and a robust choice for seasoned users seeking an efficient, customizable OS environment.

Overall, EndeavourOS continues to build on its reputation as a middle ground for Linux users who appreciate the cutting-edge benefits of a rolling-release model coupled with the practicality of a polished, user-friendly installer and strong community support.
