  • Good resources for learning Turkish?
I learned Turkish for the same reason! Besides taking an actual course, which I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do at my university, my favorite online course was Elon.io. It's free, has actual lessons/grammar explanations in an organized way, and has a nice way to practice and test yourself. Once I got good enough, I moved on to reading to my bf (now husband). I got to share my favorite children's... Source: 10 months ago
  • Where to Start?
Https://elon.io - good for fundamentals/grammar and will guide you through the language Babbel - also more grammar focused, kinda in between elon and Duolingo Duolingo - to expand your vocab Memrise - kinda like a mix of Duolingo and Babbel, but not as gamified Drops - good for vocab Clozemaster - good for on the go with their radio function. • Turkish course still missing grammar lessons in the guidebook
Have since had much better luck on elon.io. Source: 11 months ago
  • Duolingo
Have been using Duolingo for almost a year. Start with one lesson and then do my class work (Altay). My teacher has also recommended elon.io and Cambridge's Student grammar. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Hello I am moving to Istanbul for 1 year. I am wondering how long I would need to learn Turkish ?
Are you going to study before getting there? I recommend you learn the basics so it's not too overwhelming at first. Go through a self-teaching textbook like "Teach Yourself Turkish" or "The Delights of Learning Turkish", reinforce what you learn with exercices on elon.io, listen to Language Transfer and you'll be fine :D. • Which app should I go with?
Duolingo (make sure to read the tips otherwise it's useless), elon.io (a great free website), a textbook like Teach Yourself Turkish, and listen to Language Transfer (free too). Definitely don't use Busuu, last time I did (a couple of years ago?) there were ZERO grammar explanations and many difficult grammar points were used in the very first lessons without any explanation, so definitely not helpful at all. • Feeling overwhelmed with resources.
You could go through the textbook "Teach Yourself Turkish" and watch Peppa Pig in Turkish, and do some exercises on elon.io (it's free). Source: over 1 year ago
  • What Turkic language is easiest to learn?
If you go with Turkish, the duolingo course is meh, especially compared to the German one. Do it nonetheless and supplement with elon.io Been working my way through that and it's quite helpful. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Accessible flashcards app Windows and iOS
Anki Web ...kinda sorta works on Windows. No experience with the Anki iOS app though. Another web app I like using is https://elon.io. THey have language courses but you can also make your own. Again, not sure about iOS though. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Goal of having very basic conversation with asylum seekers
As a beginner, I'd say you can start with elon.io 's free Turkish course as well as the "Teach Yourself Turkish" book (it's from 1996, there's a PDF online). Together, they can help give some structure to your learning. Another textbook with exercises is "The Delights of Learning Turkish". There is also a Pimsleur (not free unless you find it in a library or on the internet...) and a Language Transfer (free) audio... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • exercises for using endings

  • Duolingo Turkish - And Learning Turkish In General
I'd also recommend elon.io from the beginning. I also got the textbook The Delights of Learning Turkish and it is doing a much better job of explaining the grammar. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • My first ever fully complete course in Memrise in a language outside my native family/subfamily. It took 4 years, lack of motivation, dabbling in other languages and sidetracking constantly, but feels good to finally reach it!
    - elon.io 's free Turkish course (excellent course with clear grammar explanation). Source: almost 2 years ago
  • best way to learn turkish?
I like the elon.io course for more in depth understanding. Source: over 2 years ago
  • New to Turkish and learning languages
When learning a language, you need to focus on four skills: listening and reading (passive skills), speaking and writing (active skills). When you start off and know nothing, following self-learner books is the easiest way to build enough knowledge (grammar, basic vocab) to be able to start practicing your passive skills by yourself at your own pace. You can do some exercises on Duolingo and the fantastic (free)... Source: over 2 years ago
