  • Shattered Pixel Dungeon is an open-source traditional roguelike dungeon crawler
As a super fan of roguelikes I appreciate the recommendation. I found a doom roguelike recently, maybe yall would be interested to. https://drl.chaosforge.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • DoomRL on Steam Deck
DoomRL is a completely separate scratch-built fangame, and has nothing to do with the Doom codebase. DoomRL Arsenal is a mod for Doom related to DoomRL only in theme. DoomRL can be downloaded from the DoomRL website ( http://drl.chaosforge.org ). Source: 7 months ago
  • Darkest Dungeon II - Launch trailer
Making it absolutely mind-boggling that people can't be assed to figure it out. There is even a very awesome DOOM roguelike. Source: about 1 year ago
  • A roguelike mode for Doom Eternal
    Oh wait that's a thing- Https://youtube.com/watch?v=R2QuFcck48U Https://drl.chaosforge.org. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Games under 2gb that I can have endless fun with immediately within the next 3 hours before I slumber
DRL is a thing. It also has a spiritual successor in Jupiter Hell, which claims to only need 2GB of space. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Steam festival celebrating turn-based games currently on. 300+ RPGs, roguelikes, grand strategy, city builders... all kinds of stuff
I'd like to call out Jupiter Hell as a great roguelike based on Doom. It's the successor to DRL (formerly DoomRL), which is still free to play. Very good SF dungeon crawly roguelike with a nice amount of customization. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Finally, I Have Them All
Maybe now you should get some unofficial fan games! Like FreeDoom or DoomRL. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Are there any entirely space/scifi themed Nethack variants?
It ain't NetHack but DRL (formerly Doom RogueLike) is a heck of a lot of fun. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • [Steam] Summer Sale 2022 (Day 13)
Jupiter Hell - A spiritual successor to DRL (formerly DoomRL, and it's free). Very simple rougelike inspired by Doom. Jupiter Hell plays very well with a controller, so I suspect it'll work well for the Deck. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • A 'Doom' mobile game from 2005 is now playable on Windows
Doom: the Roguelike did the idea, but later and not under an Shin Megami Tensai/Wizardr-y like First Person Dungeon Crawl. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • [Steam] Summer Sale 2022 (Day 6)
Maybe check out Jupiter Hell? It's a rogue like based off of Doom. The original freeware game is called DRL (formerly DoomRL), so you can check that to see if it clicks with you (Jupiter Hell is full on 3d isometric art, so if the ascii graphics turn you off, that's fixed). I'd very much call Jupiter Hell "DRL 2". It's my current obsession, and very happy to have picked it up in this sale. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Never Played a Roguelike but want to get into it
If you are looking for an easy starter to the "traditional" side, my recommendation is with DRL (Doom, the Roguelike). It still is technically distributed, even though work on it ended due to Bethesda's shenanigannery. If you like FPS games, then DRL is a good choice. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Favorite Doom game?
Unpopular opinion but I'm a big fun of DoomRL. When your reaction becomes too slow to play 3d action genre anymore, you really start to appreciate turn-based games like that. Source: about 2 years ago
  • hey what is this
You can try DRL ( https://drl.chaosforge.org/ ) to which Jupiter Hell is a spiritual successor from the same author. It's got a similar vibe but slightly different mechanics and execution. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Looking for gift suggestions with minimal knowledge of the genre - help appreciated
And finally, Bethesda's bane - Doom: The Roguelike. No cutesy graphics here, but there are graphics. And the music is dope (seeing as it's all remixes of the original Doom score), and the level up system is pretty neat, as it implements prestige classes. Another Freeware hit to be sure and a darn fine intro to the Roguelike scene. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Ideas for Dwarf Fortress 2.0.
It's been a good few years since I played it, but here it is https://drl.chaosforge.org/. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Jupiter Hell Review: Rip and Tear At Your Own Pace (Roguelike Game)
If you are slightly interested you can also check out Doom, the Roguelike. Source: over 2 years ago
