  A great article on cracked.com (if it's still up) is "Why a Zombie Apocalypse would fail- quickly). It's a hilarious read but #1 is humans. My favorite line is: "A zombie's only source of food and reproduction is also it's most dangerous predator.   There's definitely an evolution of the storytelling and writing as you read the books - it's kinda Eldritch Scooby Doo Gang on Acid with a shake of cracked.com and dick humor in there - but it's absolutely one of my favorite series.
