Couchers.org is a non-profit and free platform, built by volunteers and responsible to the couch surfing community, instead of investors. Our goal is to reclaim couch surfing and make it easy and safe for people to connect across cultures, keeping the free-sharing spirit alive and all the amazing travel experiences accessible to everyone. For this we’re including some of the best features from other platforms but tackling the main issues such as: profit incentives, safety, disconnect from community needs, or outdated functionality.
Last month, after mentioning the phrase "couchers.org" (a free alternative to Couchsurfing) in a private message to another user (who said on her profile that she prefers to be contacted there), I was instantly suspended. Source: 10 months ago
Yep, it's an issue with couchsurfing, nobody wants to leave a negative reference. This was actively being discussed in couchers.org. I myself felt pretty uncomfortable leaving a neutral reference once. Source: 11 months ago
You could also use couchers.org. It's more a follow-up to the broken couchsurfing.com, so a much wider scope. Currently it's free and says it will stay that way, they want to go with volunteer effort. Source: 11 months ago
Couchsurfing: my preferred way of touring: you get to meet great and likeminded people, you don't have to lug around camping gear (although it's good to bring an indoor-sleeping bag). The site with name couchsurfing.com is broken. But the oldschool warmshowers.org and the new couchers.org are great! You have to treat this type of hospitality as a gift and not consider it a free service. If you can, hosting others... Source: 11 months ago
Also, I would suggest joining a hospitality org. The best, original one is Servas - www.servas.org - but there's couchers.org, trustroots.org and others. it could help you immensely. Source: 11 months ago
If you can check out couchers.org. It is small but fastest growing of all last I checked. Bewelcome, Trustroot and Warmshowers are other free platfrom. Source: about 1 year ago
I've signed up with couchers.org, but mostly just given up on couchsurfing altogether. Source: about 1 year ago
Bewelcome trustroots couchers welcometomygarden. Source: about 1 year ago
Perhaps best to create a full profile on beWelcome and https://couchers.org, or perhaps even Couchsurfing. Call it erring on the careful side, but I'd never accept an invitation like this. Wish you well though. Source: about 1 year ago
Have a look at https://couchers.org . Its the new version of couchsurfing.com The old site started to charge fees for membership . The new does not. Have a look maybe someone has something. Or search for couch surfing FB groups in or near Regensburg. Source: about 1 year ago
There was an alternative made by community members, couchers.org. Source: about 1 year ago
I would probably check out something like couchers.org or /r/couchsurfing to see what options there are for staying somewhere indoors. Source: over 1 year ago
You are right. It's still picking up the user base but I have had an opportunity to host a surfer last month from the platform and I am from India so it's even more remarkable as CS.com here is free and low incentives to switch to couchers.org. Source: over 1 year ago
Just joined the relatively new and FREE couchers.org which is clearly positioning itself as the answer to the dumpster fire that is now couchsurfing.org. Missing all the fantastic, eye opening, world-expanding experiences I had over my years of hosting and surfing. RIP the good old days pre-VC funding <3. Source: over 1 year ago
That's because they built the site with volunteers and then the founders cashed in and now the site is behind a paywall. Better join bewelcome.org, trustroots.org, or couchers.org. Source: over 1 year ago
Check out platforms like couchsurfing or couchers. Source: over 1 year ago
I joined BeWelcome as well. Nice platform. Have you also tried couchers.org? Source: over 1 year ago
Wouldn't it be hard to manage all the profiles and request. Although I do support the idea of not putting all your eggs in one basket but couchers.org seems promising. I have received requests and they are from people who have kickass CS profile but moving to couchers for various issues. Source: over 1 year ago
There is bewelcome.org, trustroots.org, couchers.org .All of them smaller but without paywall. Source: over 1 year ago
Other random advice- get connected to a hospitality org that you feel comfortable with. Trustroots.org, Servas.org couchers.org are 3 I think are great. Make connections while you travel - it's kind of the whole point. Get started on joining the orgs right now, so you know what your doing when you're on the move. Source: almost 2 years ago
Use trustroots.org or couchers.org. Source: almost 2 years ago
