  • What are your writer's habits?
I’m 🙈 like everyone else about writing directly into the AO3 editor (don’t know about Wattpad, does that autosave?) – even a browser-based alternative that autosaves like online notepad app, ompad, zenpen or an etherpad would be safer for writing (not for storing drafts ofc). Maybe if you look for something very clean with cloud storage + autosave you could try Dropbox Paper. Or Focuswriter might be a great and... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • New rich text editors use native contenteditable
DraftJS, Slate, ProseMirror, Quill and more - they all use their model for abstracting dom (unfortunately I don't rememeber what was the exact reasoning. Quill has some article on that https://quilljs.com/docs/delta) I can see now the surge of new RTEs that simply use contenteditable and dom. Is it that isssue from the past that led those libs above to use abstractions - are not valid... Source: over 2 years ago

  • Writing 'software' that gives out an announcement when you're at a total of +1000 words.
Cold Turkey lets you set a word count (or timer) and blocks all other applications until you've written that many words (or for that amount of time). Source: over 1 year ago
  • Resources for the Month Ahead?
Cold Turkey Writer if I'm having trouble with internet distractions. It won't let you leave the app by any means until you hit your target. No copy and paste to fake it, no checking your email or the weather, no playing solitaire, wasting time on reddit or going down a research rabbit hole. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Took a break, now can’t get back into it
I always bust this out when I'm in a slump, it works like magic: https://getcoldturkey.com/writer/. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Need a digital replacement for my journal, but without the ability to do anything other than write.
Cold Turkey Writer does exactly this in a totally complete and badass way. Your computer won't let you do anything except type on an essentially featureless word processor. It turns your computer into a typewriter. Source: over 2 years ago
