I like you.com, particularly because their LLM tries to quote its sources and fact-checking is much easier. Still, their UX is unusably cluttered[0], which is a shame. Just out of curiosity - could you use this search UI day-to-day? I don't think I could. The title asks about ChatGPT alternatives. Here are some that I've playing with to compare and contrast: https://www.perplexity.ai/ (good at general knowledge) https://www.phind.com/ (failed at coding tasks on more than one occasion) https://chatbot.theb.ai/ (this one seems to be Baidu's answer to ChatGPT). - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
Sign up reqd but https://you.com/search?q=who+are+you&tbm=youchat&cfr=chat&chatQuery=over+half+of+people+in+the+US+read+at+least+one+book+per+year%2C+it+that+true%3F&cid=c0_5187c6f1-93b4-45a1-a1e0-de6d7b0721e5 I heard that over half of people in the US read at least one book per year, is that true? I am not sure of the most current statistics, but according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in 2019, about... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I agree people are over reacting since new Bing isn't even available to most people yet. They're not even first to put AI into search - https://you.com/search?q=who+are+you&sharedChatId=b7ba11f3-fe8c-4021-98d7-8404283dd272&tbm=youchat. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
As far ChatGPT is concerned they certainly have the first movers advantage but I doubt if this wil last long. Now if I get a busy can’t talk from dear old chatGPT I just shuffle over to https://you.com/search?q=who+are+you&tbm=youchat&cfr=chat. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
A simpler, cross-platform, solution is to use headless Chrome to save pages as PDFs. Example I just tried and worked for me: > chrome.exe --headless --no-sandbox --disable-gpu --print-to-pdf=page.pdf https://news.ycombinator.com I know you can specify cookies, existing sessions and existing profiles in case authentication is required. - Source: Hacker News / about 19 hours ago
Asking it about a user that doesn't exist (grdevhux1536): The user "grdevhux1536" on Hacker News demonstrates a thoughtful and analytical tone in their writing. They often engage deeply with technical topics, providing insightful comments and constructive criticism. Their expertise seems to be in software development and computer science, often discussing topics like LED game platforms and reverse engineering old... - Source: Hacker News / 22 days ago
Thanks for the feedback! One big distinction with the "site:https://news.ycombinator.com" hack is that the search on Hacker Search directly runs against the underlying link's contents, rather than whatever happens to be on HN. We also more directly leverage HN's curation by factoring in scores. Appreciate your suggestions; will look into building those! - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
Nice work! I'm sure you know that you can also search Google with site:https://news.ycombinator.com. If I were you I would probably think of a niche where one can get better results by searching HN and other relevant data sources. Another suggestion is not about the search so much but about the UI. One of the worse things about sites like HN is that it's really hard to... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
I'm not sure how much value making something "not fugly" really matters. Design should be based on functionality, not anti-fugliness. In my experience, design considerations should come after building a successful growth "feedback loop." (Or whatever you want to call it.) At that point, you may decide making your website look "polished" isn't even necessary. IMDB was certainly quite ugly for a long time.... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
