DuckDuckGo is really good when it comes to privacy, but just as bad as google with showing information. Even though it doesn't tell you most of the top results on DuckDuckGo are ads, they paid to be the top results. It also tends to filter out non politically correct information. I haven't been able to find any real alternative to this except maybe Swisscows and Mojeek. These search engines provide fully... Source: over 2 years ago

  • What happened to Yippy search?
Yippy.com was a great alternative to the mainstream search engines, it reminded me of an improved altavista from back in the day. But yippy.com now redirects to DDG, and I can't find any word as to why. The "Try YIPPY Search" link on yippyinc.com also gets redirected. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation due to increased demand. Back to Qwant I suppose. Source: about 4 years ago

  • S3 Express Is All You Need
We tested S3 Express for our search engine quickwit[0] a couple of weeks ago. While this was really satisfying on the performance side, we were a bit disappointed by the price, and I mostly agree with the article on this matter. I can see some very specific use cases where the pricing should be OK but currently, I would say most of our users should just stay on the classic S3 and add some local SSD caching if they... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

    - Another nice comment seen on HN « it seems to be very easy to run, not very IO intensive, and running fine on a single node with modest hardware with >2 billion log rows.
