Komoot uses the open-source OpenStreetMap database and allows you to plan road, mountain bike and gravel rides as well as commutes. The big difference over Google Maps is in the routing, where Komoot tries to choose the most efficient route, taking into account how bike-friendly a road or path is, as well as your fitness.

Komoot vs. Strava is asked many times. They aren’t competing in many aspects because Komoot has a different purpose: to assist those who like to go off-grid or offline.
Best Hiking Apps of 2022 – Tested and Reviewed
The Komoot app wins when it comes to graphic design and interface. The app is very easy to use and comes with several very useful features. One such feature is turn-by-turn voice navigation – yes, even on hiking trails! Furthermore, the app also calculates the optimal route to your destination for you; if you tap on a point on the map, the app will create you the optimal...

  • The great Polish Sea -or- We forgot Poland (2006)
After the second stage of Russian aggression on Ukraine in 2022 the Yandex maps have removed country borders entirely. It makes for a very interesting map: https://yandex.com/maps I believe it was in response to the annexation of territories/oblasts that Russia didn't even control (lol). - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • Discussion Thread
Yandex maps still doesn't have any national borders. This annexation thing doesnt seem to be going very well, nobody in Russia knows where Russia is. Source: over 1 year ago

Hahaha, check out yandex maps right now. It's Russia's version of Google maps. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Map Data: False Assumptions Programmers Make
I'm not sure if your question is rhetoric, but somewhere I've read that some map providers show it depending on what country the user (website visitor) is in - so users in country A see the disputed territory as belonging to country A, users in country B see it as belonging to their country, and everyone else sees this territory as "disputed between A and B". Governments of both A and B might have opposite demands... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Is 110000 rubles a month enough to comfortably live in Moscow?
I would suggest looking for apartments on cian.ru and then looking at the panorama view on Yandex Maps (https://yandex.com/maps/) for that location to get a good feeling of what to expect. Source: about 2 years ago

  • Cycling to the New Forest
Have you tried looking at https://www.opencyclemap.org/ or something like komoot.com? OCM will show you the cycle routes around (as /u/CaptRik says, the 236 national cycle route will take you there - looks to be a simple route), and Komoot can do a route plan for you between two points which you can follow in an app and also shows a breakdown of what type of surface and road you'll be on. For your route, it's... Source: 11 months ago
  • First time cycle route planning -- what's your go to?
I usually use komoot (komoot.com, but there's also an app). IIRC it's paid, if you want the maps offline (can be bought for $10 on sale, otherwise $30). Do note that not all countries are supported, so best to check this out first.. Source: 12 months ago
  • Tips for Cycling to work in Oxford? (Headington)
Got any friends that cycle? See if you can borrow a bike and go for a ride with one of them for an hour or two one evening - just get used to being on the road, how to signal, etc. If you're already comfy on a bike then it'll come really easy, and your fitness will build surprisingly fast too. Also maybe have a look on something like Komoot to check out possibly routes, Oxford has a surprising amount of little... Source: 11 months ago
  • Arc not supporting WebGL?
Just downloaded Arc, very interesting, excited to try this new experience. I use komoot.com a lot to plan my bike rides, but when I opened it in Arc, it seems like it cannot render the map section because of Komoot not being able to access WebGL. Did anyone experience similar problems, even with other websites? Source: 12 months ago
  • Is there a better alternative to google maps for cycling?
You can use other route finder like strava.com , komoot.com, ridewithgps.com. Source: about 1 year ago
