    I’m 🙈 like everyone else about writing directly into the AO3 editor (don’t know about Wattpad, does that autosave?) – even a browser-based alternative that autosaves like online notepad app, ompad, zenpen or an etherpad would be safer for writing (not for storing drafts ofc).     DraftJS, Slate, ProseMirror, Quill and more - they all use their model for abstracting dom (unfortunately I don't rememeber what was the exact reasoning. Quill has some article on that https://quilljs.com/docs/delta) I can see now the surge of new RTEs that simply use contenteditable and dom.
