I suggest using a hosted nextcloud from a privacy respecting company. I used the Swiss company Woelkli for a couple of years. Since you will not need a lot of file storage, you can use the free tier with 1 GB of storage. Then just configure Thunderbird and Android (via the app DavX5) to use the calendar url. The answers you have given are very good, anyway I have used for a long time Wolkli, if I have to choose the lesser evil then a server in Switzerland is better than a USA server, always regarding "non-self-hosted" clouds this project seems interesting: https://filen.io/ (does not use Nextcloud).
