I totally agree with the approach of having metrics in the BI tool - it makes it easier to collaborate around this metrics layer, and makes it easier to surface any potential staleness issues to business users directly. There are some modern BI tools that are low/no-code and that combine data sources and can get you up and running quickly. Whaly (http://whaly.io) for example specializes in helping founders, operations leads, non-technical folks to do this really quickly. They also have a free trial if you want to check it out. Thanks for this! I agree these are solid platforms, however, there are more modern BI solutions that might be a better fit for certain companies (depending on size and data maturity.) Particularly if there's no data team at the company, there are solutions that offer modeling completely in SQL or no-code (Whaly is one example). Source: almost 2 years ago
