  • Practical Vim Command Workflow
It surprises me how few people are aware of https://vim-adventures.com Beat that game and hjkl will feel just as natural as arrow keys, and so will a ton of vim commands. I think the creator does himself a disservice by selling 6 month licenses rather than lifetime. But 6 months is more than enough to play through it. I think it only took me a couple days. - Source: Hacker News / 6 days ago
  • Any fun ways to learn Emacs?
I do not know any for emacs, but for Vim there is one: https://vim-adventures.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 days ago
  • Obsidian 1.5 Desktop (Public)
That’s a good question. The built in tutorial is actually really good, you can launch it with “vimtutor” on the command line. It doesn’t give you everything, but its instructions and text to try things out on in the editor itself, which I find a good way to learn. It isn’t particularly programming focused either. For getting used to the motions especially https://vim-adventures.com can be a fun way, in its game... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

Very cool! As an aside, I've learned so many things via games like this. Including vim (via https://vim-adventures.com/), which I now basically can't live without. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

  • Games like Stone Story RPG
I have tried Screeps in the past, and I'm not a huge fan. I really like Stone Story, but they do not have an easy way to take your saves across multiple platforms -- you have to manually import/export your save. Source: 8 months ago
  • Helping a young coder
-For JavaScript, my advice would be to introduce coding games. That way it's more fun and the environment would be set up better (less worrying about deep technical errors). The two games that come to mind are Bitburner (free) and Screeps (free offline/paid online), though they both have their own learning curves and require actual coding; so for a 9 year old YMMV greatly. • SpaceTraders: A multiplayer game built on a free web API
A good, existing example I'd like to show you is Screeps: https://screeps.com/ Personally, when I'm in the mindset of playing that game, I can't help but come back to my bot every 30 minutes to see if it's performing well. When I see that it's doing something strange, I take notes and can't stop thinking about possible solutions. When I'm not in the mood to play (i.e. Analyze the bot or program more... - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
  • How to set up a corporate hackathon
I organised a small team to develop a screeps bot. Other teams made their own basic, but amusing game or explored interesting technologies. A few teams even worked on things related to the business. Source: almost 1 year ago
