  • Firefox and Thunderbird with monospace fonts that support ligatures
That's not a trick question. Victor Mono does support ligatures. Source: 5 months ago
  • I had no idea that one company basically owns every font
It's not Iosevka (really, what else can come close except maybe Envy Code R), but I have recently discovered Victor Mono and think it an attractive programming font: https://rubjo.github.io/victor-mono/. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Asynchronous Rust on Cortex-M Microcontrollers
Offtopic: The cursive italics are apparently a feature of the Victor Mono [1] font used for the full page. While it'd be amusing in Tumblr context (where cursive is used for hyperbolic emphasis), I can't fathom why one would consider it in a code context. You can change it (at least on Safari) by going into developer tools, clicking any node, and removing "Victor Mono" from --font-family [1]... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • JetBrains Mono Typeface
I use this type face on pretty much everything that involves reading or writing code. It's great! Even comes with ligatures. Victor Mono[0] is another great monospace font. [0]: https://rubjo.github.io/victor-mono/. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • FiraCode: Free monospaced font with programming ligatures
I love FiraCode! I was using it for almost half a decade before recently switching to Victor Mono. [1] The ligatures do serve a practical purpose to me anyways. I find they make parsing symbols much easier because the same symbol in different contexts looks different when it means something different. There’s a reason it’s a typography option that’s turned OFF in most editors though, I understand why people hate... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

  • Javascript Ecosystem, How Trash It Actually Is?
On top of all that, now we want to make JavaScript type-safe. So let's add 10 more configuration files, add a compiler, and now we have bullcrap^2. Just like Facebook invented HackLang, Microsoft invented TypeScript, but only companies of this magnitude need such features. The average Joe from Delaware does not need all that. - Source: dev.to / about 8 hours ago
  • Benchmarking 20 programming languages on N-queens and matrix multiplication
PHP results: Is Hack still popular with PHP people? I was stupid enough to write some scientific code in PHP once so know how slow it can be. But if your going to do try write performant code in PHP use the HHVM interpreter. It's much faster. Hack (https://hacklang.org/) uses that under the hood by default. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • If a company's codebase for backend is PHP, is it worh it to join, when you are a fresh graduate and only know C# and Java?
Meta: hacklang.org has the details there. It forked off of PHP ~5 years ago, and is no longer backwards compatible. I believe this is also what Slack uses. Source: 11 months ago
  • Backends with React
Facebook literally created Hack because PHP wasn't meeting their needs at the time. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Why had flutter not replaced react native yet?
Well, yeah, since they generally don't kill popular projects. Hell hack is still getting updates even though no one ever gave a shit about it. Meanwhile Flutter can be cancelled tomorrow because another division made Clutter and they have more "political" pull at google... Source: over 1 year ago
