  • Is the Job Market Dying?
I’d add one other option: look outside of tech. I knew people who were hit by the dotcom bubble pretty hard but ended up getting jobs in government, academia (I left for a computational research lab myself), non-profits, and high-touch but not tech businesses (e.g. a friend bailed to a law firm - they were flush with cash but none of the partners knew how or wanted to run the IT side of things.). I’d especially... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Moving to Spain
That leaves you with DoD fed and contractors. For the former usajobs.gov is where you look for those but keep in mind Spain is a favorite so openings are rare, and even when they are posted they may already be filled as a contractor conversion. Nurses at Base hospital when I was there were not DoD civilians - they were military, there may have been a couple dependents. Source: 6 months ago
  • VA or not? (New grad & veteran)
Go to usajobs.gov. They have everything you need on that site. Source: 6 months ago
  • Junior CS student looking for internships, barely any non-automated OAs even. What am I doing wrong?
Like I said, minor stuff that's more style and personal opinion than anything else. If nothing else, create a usajobs.gov account and set up an alert for IT internships. They'll start putting up intern positions in the next few months (note: the hiring timeline is lengthy). Source: 6 months ago
  • Need Clarification on the Application
I'm at the final stages of an application but I have one hangup and I don't know how to go about it. I'm applying through usajobs.gov. Source: 6 months ago

  • Living conditions for Douglas/Arapahoe county area
Moving from central Illinois. Got a job offer today for a company in Englewood. First year salary will be 85,000 (73,000+12,000 sign-on). Realistically, after taxes, I've calculated my first year take home to be ~60,000, after which (if no raises or bonuses, only riding my salary) take home will be ~55,000. Not sure on the accuracy of that, just used smartasset.com. Source: 7 months ago
  • How much do you currently have invested in JEPI?
That is ordinary income taxes. If it was qualified I’d pay $0 on first $81,000 I make. You can calculate taxes with smartasset.com . Federal taxes are pretty low on mere mortals. The rich really do pay their fair share. Source: 12 months ago
  • Side hustling to buy JEPI/Q until this happens.
I use smartasset.com Good tax calculator. Assume $100,000/ yr from JEPI/JEPQ. Married filing jointly I get effective Fed rate of 8.48% with $8481. My state is listed as eff rate of 4.87% or $4868. No FICA of course. Taxes total about 15%. Big deal. Now if you have $300,000 in dividends I would either go with qualified dividends or long term gains rate on selling shares. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Living in Kali
Net (w/taxes etc): $70,000 (per SmartAsset.com) breaks down to $5,000/month net ($2,500 bi-weekly). Source: about 1 year ago
  • got my real estate assessment today....
I'm not cherry-picking here. I'm picking out random cities, typing them into smartasset.com, and typing out the results as they come. Source: about 1 year ago
