  • My personal list of where to find quality domains for cheap
Ungrabbed.com — The concept of this is simple: it’s a newsletter with two domains sent to your inbox every morning that can be used for naming businesses, side projects, etc. They’re usually quite good in quality and cost around $150-$350. So, if you keep an eye out, you can snag something decent (but you have to be quick as there are a lot of subscribers). Source: 11 months ago

  • ELI5: How do internet domains work? Who are you paying?
In the future things might change, there's discussions around decentralization of trust that now has accumulated with a select few (donut domains? Verisign?) Handshake is one such protocol that allows you to have decentralized trust and hence gives you freedom to have your own TLD, porkbun will even sell you one if you'd like but it's very much experimental today.
