I got good at this by regularly doing this sight: https://typing.io/ and choosing a different programming language (don't worry if your not a programmer -- the point of this is the frequency of symbols you will have to type while practicing)... I believe that the much better option is stop on word which makes Monkeytype behave like Typeracer or Keymash in that you have to use Backspace or Ctrl+Backspace to correct your mistakes before progressing to the next word.
