Listening to smooth jazz in coffee shops lead me to chillout and downtempo, and when my daughter was born I didn't have as much time to DJ in bars so I filled the gap by hanging out in chillout rooms on turntable.fm, where vaporwave began to spread. Search into GLSL shaders in your favorite search engine. For the MPD218, I have this midi mapped in some software called Synesthesia (https://synesthesia.live). This is really cool software because it allows for pretty easy VJing while you are on the decks. There are various scenes built in and some you can purchase/download and those scenes interact with video/images that you have.
