Go to rent.com, trulia.com, and try to rent from a person who owns their apartment/condo vs. Renting from a management company. Apartmentguide.com and apartments.com are very useful, and Trulia has been helpful while looking at houses to rent. You are REALLY going to want to come out for a couple days and look around though. That's the only way to find something that you will feel comfortable in. You can have some sketchy ass places right across the street from some nice places and they'll both be similar in pricing.
