  • I want to learn to play synths. Where do I begin?
For your first synth I would suggest using software but look for something that emulates hardware like maybe this one or even better the best COMPLETELY FREE and OPEN SOURCE synth out there SURGE. - Source: Reddit / 1 day ago
  • Getting more instruments
Finally, I'm in love with Surge Synthesizer. Tons of neat presets. - Source: Reddit / 2 days ago
  • Any VST that can make sounds like this Macintosh SE/30?
Hah, I used to have one of those. Still have the Mac OS 6.0 floppies! In any case, this plugin is free and can make any of those sounds. - Source: Reddit / 6 days ago
  • Which synthesizer should I use with ORCA as a beginner?
I'd go with - that thing is amazing, to me. You can also go with which uses a bit less DSP. - Source: Reddit / 6 days ago

Serum mentions (7)

  • What would be the total cost to start making music on FL Studios?
I recommend starting with at least the Producer Edition, if not the Signature Bundle. Keep in mind, many tutorials based on those artists utilize third party plug-ins, such as Serum and Diva. Serum is very popular across all genres of music, and is more intuitive for beginners. Diva is also excellent, although not as intuitive, and it can be CPU intensive. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Updating from Mojave
Yes, Ableton and NI softwares are compatible with all current release versions of macOS. See NI details here and Ableton here Xfer’s site here doesn’t specifically say it’s compatible with the latest versions, but at the bottom of the page it says “macOS 10.11 or later” and I’ve heard of people running Serum on newer versions than Mojave. I am using an M1 MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur and it’s perfectly fine... - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • advice on what daw to get?
Majority of the PC Music/Gec scene are gonna be using Logic. As always though, DAW’s are only a small small small part of the picture. SOPHIE Splice sample pack, Serum VST and Sylenth 1 VST are gonna be your goto’s. If you don’t want to pay or pirate try Helm VST, it’s a pay what you want (free too), open source VST that should get you going. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • Komplete or not to Komplete?
I know this isn't what you asked, but I'd highly recommend picking up Serum for the genres you mentioned. It's an extremely versatile synth, it's easy to use, and best of all, there are a TON of third-party preset packs for it. Hell, you can hop on Splice and download presets for it all day long. I use it on virtually every project. I've used a bunch of synths over the years, and Serum is by far my favorite. It's... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
