  • Ask HN: How to Make News Aggregation Work in 2024?
No clue, because the general quality and incentives of the news business is so terrible. I enjoy Techmeme[1] and sumi.news[2], though. 1. https://techmeme.com/river 2. https://sumi.news. - Source: Hacker News / 19 days ago
  • Ask HN: How do you get important news faster? Do you care about it?
Two things I read: https://sumi.news/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events Just for a quick sweep. Then I open Twitter/X and browse to my local news site. This takes at most 5 minutes to skim world (and local) events and catch up. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Is there a site similar to Hacker News, but for "General News"?
    Sumi News[0] is a good non-biased sweep of current events, aswell as Wikipedia's current events page[1] [0] https://sumi.news/ [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Ask HN: How do you discover new things on the internet in 2023?
Https://www.producthunt.com/ (For new SaaS products and interesting books) https://sumi.news/ (One quick sweep of current events) https://pinboard.in/popular (Everything that is trending on the web) And of course, Hackernews (I regularly browse /newest when I am feeling serendipitous). - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Ask HN: Flat world news, like NYT HN
This is the second time I've mentioned it today, but https://sumi.news might fit the bill. It is run by a HNer, although I can't remember their username offhand. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago

  • First-Gen Social Media Users Have Nowhere to Go
I see this all the time and while at the time I thought the same there's so many good alternatives these days, even better than back then. All the interesting and small websites I want to follow still have RSS feeds so I feel like we can move on. The two I use for many years already are: - https://miniflux.app (OS, Minimal, web interface and can be used with all clients that support Fever or Google Reader API) -... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Show HN: Twine – Gorgeous open source multiplatform RSS app
And like with most multiplatform apps, it doesn't look native at all on iOS. I prefer my current combination of: https://netnewswire.com + https://miniflux.app Both open source too. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • [Hobby Scuffles] Week of April 24, 2023
Ive had pretty good luck finding feeds for stuff I want to subscribe to. There isn't always an explicit rss link but you'd be surprised how many blog platforms provide a /rss or /feed endpoint by default. The reader I use is pretty good at finding them if I just give it a link to the home page. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Serving an RSS reader and a browser best way?
I have miniflux https://miniflux.app/ as my rss reader. It is setup in a container and if I am outside of my home network I use tailscale to connect to the local network. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Gripes with RSS after one week
As a recent returnee to the world of RSS feeds, I’ve been enjoying the miniflux client [1] self hosted with docker-compose. Fast, cross-platform, not fancy. [1] https://miniflux.app/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
